I always thought it was the same company but because of some screwy law or tax thing, they had to separate on paper.
And you can't fuel at pilot , then move down to Kwik star? ? Or are you REQUIRED TO PARK AT PILOT FLYING J?
Like that Kwik Star ... the store has better selection of fresh food than the usual truck stop crap ... just hope the new TA up the road doesn't cut into their business.
Elogs are why I do it. I understand that distance isn't going to start them, and I know I can go over there, but after a day of chaining, strapping, tarping, whatever that day consisted of, the last thing I REALLY care about is becoming a fat ###. I like to shower and sleep. Wanna ask me if I HAVE to shower at pilot as well?
The reason i said that was, i am amazed at the number of new, young drivers who have been told by their driver managers that they can only stop at the assigned fuel stops. And the new guys believe them. They may tell me where to buy the fuel, but they ain't tellin me where to eat or sleep. And i am not above paying to shower at a fuel stop i did not purchase fuel at. I can deduct that off my income taxes, so no lost money and usually it is cleaner and less of a wait.
I stop where I want, but I'd prefer to knock out as many birds as I can with one stone. If I wasn't a company driver it would be different, but for now, a one stop fix all is good for me. Now, OP, sorry about that.
My wife and I stopped at the competition, the newly opened TA, and the restaurant is open 6AM till 11PM, it's smaller and I can't remember what it was before, we were in a hurry, so we didn't do much more than have a meal there. The Kwik-Star/Trip franchises vary from car traffic at most of them, up to a regular truck stop/travel center, with restaurant and showers available, and all variations in between. Most have a good selection of hot food and baked goods available They do a decent job on the food, have very good coffee, and they are almost always clean and well kept; I can't remember ever finding an instance where I was tempted to complain about them.
