Had a neighbor tell me once , you sure are a lucky guy....Nice home , nice vehicles , wife don't work , and you only work 3 days a week....I said yeah...but , let me ask you something....You hear my pick-up start at around 11:00 pm , you go back to sleep , the clock gets you up at 6:00 , you leave for work at 6:30 , get there and do your thing to 3:30 , back home around 4:00. Mow the grass , wash your car , play with the kid's etc...have supper around 6:00 , and I'm just then pulling in the drive.....you bet....I'm the lucky one. But , in all truth I am...wouldn't change it for the world.

[QUTE=Peterbilt579;4140525]Just saying people have no clue what it's like being a truckphysically deer they think oh that's easy they just sit on there ### all day
[/QUOTE]
It Iis just crazy how they think it is easy... I mean serioulsy, if it was easy would there be so many middle aged women and retired people becoming truck drivers... so of course it is not easy... no job that attracts grandmas and grandpas could be easy... my first clue that it was an extreamly hard job was when I saw all the middle aged and out of shap truckers at a truck stop... I thought, ####.. that must be a hard job...
Glad I took the easy lazy route and decided to pull flatbed... couldnt handle all that physical drain of sitting at at dock all day laying in my bunk eating cheetos and playing Farmville.... what stamina...Last edited by a moderator: Jul 19, 2014

I am literally a paid tourist. While all of those disgusting slobs are sitting at a shipper overnight whining amongst each other i am busting out my longboard and exploring the new town/city/village i found myself in for the night. I am making a promise to myself to never become like the rest of those truckers but its a slippery slope. It is very easy to fall into that slump and difficult to climb out of it.Bandaid Thanks this. -
I think I laugh more when drivers try to make this job seem hard... I look at my average day of work... most of it is spent rolling down the road eating sunflower seeds and listening to my favorite music... then I have maybe 30 to 45 minutes of work pulling my tarps off and un strapping my load, then folding and rolling my tarps and wi ding my straps.. then I am back to rolling down the road eating su flower seeds and listening to my favorite music.. I have about 15 minutes of work as I drop my empty flat and pick up a loaded.. then it is music and seeds again... another 30 or 40 minutes of work.. more seeds more music and 10 minutes of work as I drop my empty flat and post trip my truck... so I have maybe 1 1/2 to 3 hours of work in a 12 to 14 hour shift... that is a heck of a lot easier than when I was in retail and on my feet 10 hours a day and dealing with rude and stupid customers.. heck of a lot easier then when I was in construction and actually working 12 hours a day.. and I like it a hell of a lot more then when I was in sales and put in long days only to not get a signature or sale.. no sale, no commission... No pay check...
When I was OTR it was even easier as I didnt have house work, yard work or other stuff to takecare of at the end of the day...
You really think we work harder than construction workers, or nurses who are on their feet all shift, or even harder then the kids at subway who are on their feet working a whole shift and have to serve and deal with rude smelly non tipping truck drivers all day.... I sure dont... that is why i am driving a truck and not working at a subway... i just sweep my truck at the end of the day... i have no floor to mop... and it is for #### sure i have it better than the poor soul who has to clean the restroom... they have a hard tough job....
Also, so you know.. sunflower seeds are very good for you... help prevent cancer and heart attack... also keeps this middle aged womans skin looking young and vibrant and gives it a healthy glow....
Trucking doesnt have to be bad for your health... -
