Am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of a local company in or around Tucson. Looking to move there shortly but want a decent job before making the move

Pretty sure all of the major LTL carries have yards down in Tucson. I live in Phoenix and work for Old Dominion and I know we send freight down to Tucson every day/night.
Rugerfan Thanks this. -

They are tough to get on with. Their hiring process is very thorough. Took me about 2 months from the initial application ( which has to be done at the terminal) to the time I started working. But I will say it's a great place to work... They treat you well and the pay and benefits are awesome! My advise would be to give the terminal down there a call to see if they're hiring and explain your situation and see what they say. Good luck man

Key words, we haul to Tuscon every night....Meaning Phoenix covers Tucson for OD
Im your guy, Im fully tuned in to all Tucson LTL stuffs
YRC, UPS, FED EX, forget it, never gonna happen, mega waiting lists with YRC still with lots of layed off drivers yet to be hired back..Terminal manager told me :we'll never be taking applications probably:!!
Saia is BS here..Ask for details if ya want em
Conway, nope
Phoenix? Whole nother story, every carrier hiring, like always..Bunches of good jobs there, here in Tucson, you got Central Transport for LTL..Which is OK in this town, I gave em 2 years, again, if you want details, ask
If you have doubles and hazmat, you totally need to come to my company CTI, INC !!
Awesome company,,,running the same hours as LTL for the same pay as LTL, but not hauling freight...WE haul everything else...You'll get trained up on a pneumatic blower, or a live bottom, or an end dump, and you'll haul cement, copper conentrate, or fly ash, or lime, or if you want 300 a day, run an acid tanker...
Its cool!!
I run on the copper crew, live bottom trailer, i get 100 a load, always do 2 a night, sometimes preload and get and extra half load, meaning, i'll go to the mine (south) and not take it all the way to the smelter (north)..I'll take it to the yard, and the next driver will take it to the smelter..Its a kick ### gig...different ? yes, way funner and more exciting than LTL...Decent equipment, Im actually in a 2015 T880
Some junk, 2005+ w900's....They keep em running tho
Best benefits anywhere...I got everything...We get $500 safety bonus every quarter, bunch of cool stuff
The bosses are all x drivers!!! No BS
Check out thier site!!
Ive been everywhere in this town, and am just now finally happy with a company..The guys are great, lots of old schoolers!! Bunch of options on what you can haul, where, and for how long...
No need to ask, just apply and come aboard...The only downside, hours....they run
Most of us a fillin the log books up..Im runnin 11's, 2 loads a night
Im lazy, want 200 a night but only 8 hours!!
If I can get up to 10 hours, then im runnin on average 20 bucks an hour..
Im slow, and scared, 55 in the 65...so im an hour slow! LOL
ANyways, ya dood, skip the BS, come to CTI, I-10 frontage road and Tangerine area, apply, hang here while you get on the list for UPS or ABF...a 2 to 4 year planLast edited by a moderator: Dec 17, 2015

Everyone has a CDL in Tucson...Average pay is 14 bucks an hour
So, anything in the 18 to 21 range is tops for this market...Ive done fuel, LTL, Aggregates, flatbed, a bunch..
Tons of bellies and side dumpers here all making 12 bucks an hour...Its rediculous..
So 2 choices, CTI, a bulk hauler, or Central Trans..Both Hiring -
Here is CTI's headquarters...Greg the owner comes in alot, the president Tom is here everyday, Then Darryl, Then TM dave, all were drivers at this company..pretty cool
On peoplenet...no paper logs
Easy paperwork too!! Bascially your DVIR, and Job ticket, thats it
We are the copper industry, The Bagdad AZ mine is the biggest in the country, and 2nd largest in the world..I dig the haul Im on...we gotta get them 20 loads a night, 10 trucks on it 2 loads a piece..
My blower trainer had a brand new automatic pete, he runs 2 loads of cement every night at 125 a piece, dedicated run also.
Lots of guys run miscellaneous here , there, everywhere kind of runs..Lots of options, maybe not immediately, its totally seniority based on that...still cool tho -
Lots of old fat but semi retired's here...If your one of those, "I just drive " guys, this place will work for you, very low labor...drag a hose, crack a valve...no biggie
youll get a sign on bonus!!
Orientation, a week , is 12 an hour, but, I think I got the first 1000 of my sign on on my first check (I think) if not, then 2nd check
I'll get the rest at 90 day markLast edited by a moderator: Dec 17, 2015

@realdesertkickin that sounds awesome. I don't have my hazmat right now but do have my doubles. I work nights as it is and run anywhere from 9-12 hours a night running 3 loads of woodchips. That sounds like just the gig I need. I will look into getting my hazmat right away
