Hurst, have you tried contacting some of the prestress concrete places in Florida and Georgia? They are usually pretty good to haul for. At least they are here.

 

I've tried 2 near me. I'd have to change my whole set up to haul the weight they want to load me with. That and I heard they pay worse than brokers trying to move tar shingles. I did not get into money with them,.. soon as I said I couldnt scale more than 46k they were not interested.

That and if you saw how beat up the trailers these guys were using,.. I dont want my equipment to end up like that.

Wood decks do tend to hold up better than aluminum does. We also have some trailers that have been hauling this stuff for over 10 years and they still look good. A lot of the guys get in too much of a hurry and just don't care about the equipment.

Might be a little different up here because the 2 big plants that we have and haul for are 250 miles apart. We go all over the state for them and even into N Dakota and Wyoming. We are leaving Sunday to pick up some bridge beams in Spokane to take up to Kalispell next week. We have had 5 trucks pulling all week from spokane to idaho falls.

 

The one nearest me does mainly pipe and underground structures. That and pallets of dry mix. Step deck isnt exactly ideal for that type of work.

The larger stuff like bridge beams, walls, etc is either made on site or comes out of Georgia or Alabama.

Florida really sucks when it comes to manufacturing and shipping. Its flooded with retired truckers running whats left of their equipment for peanuts. I went to look at a Pete while home and the owner bragged about clearing $900 a week. The truck resembled every bit of that.
