To be honest that's not really a fair statement. 2 things. First, EVERY ONE (except our lovely politicians) makes less today than they did in 1980 if you adjust to 2015 dollars. Inflation over the last 30 years destroyed the value of a dollar. Second, most of us make much more than the average wage. That average is brought artificially low by all the mega bottom feeder training carriers that had a much much smaller size in 1980. Take those numbers out and the average jumps up quite a bit.

    Everyone? Really?
Heres one i just pulled up

School teachers averaged $16,000-$17,000 or so in 1980
Compared to truck driver averaging $38,000 in 1980.

    http://www.overdriveonline.com/trucker-pay-has-plummeted-in-the-last-30-years-analyst-stays/

Now teachers average more in income than truck drivers.

2014 high school teachers averaged $56,000
    http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/high-school-teacher/salary

Truck drivers currently average around $40,000
    http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/09/news/economy/truck-driver-shortage/

In 1980 truck drivers earned more than double what School Teachers earned. Since then School Teacher salary more than tripled going somewhat along with inflation where as Truck driver salary is still nearly what it was 30+ years ago
This is just one example of how we're getting paid peanuts.

I think school teachers should make more than truck drivers. It takes a lot more time/money to get into that field than a $4000 6 week truck driving school.
