I must agree with @snowwy on this one!!!

MS is giving away 10 for FREE and is now even FORCING upgrades... Which is what you are hitting.

Personally, unless you have a pre update full system backup, if you are going to invest your time and energy to get an OS that's working, put that energy towards MAKING 10 work and not trying to go the uninstall and down grading to 8. By doing so you may even make the situation worse and not better and you will still have the same forced update knocking at your door for the foreseeable future.

Trust us... Move forward and take the lumps.

    Good Luck,
    MD

PS might be a good time to check out macOS

Thanks Mac......man, all I really use it for is the Excel for my checkbook, and look at the news, and come on here. I don't understand why they have to make things so annoyingly complicated.
But I do appreciate the kind advice. Maybe there's an Apple in my future.........

I would call MS since both Windows and Office are their products they "should" know why they are not playing well together or provide some light on why it's happening and what's the best path to getting it to work.

You can not be the only one hitting it.

Which version of Office are you using?

well, I was running the latest....maybe 2015......but the folks that put it back together for me put me on 2013 because I couldn't locate the key to what I had been running.....so, no big deal.

Here's how it started. A couple of days ago my Google Chrome crashed, and like most dummies, I just reinstalled it. Then, this morning, something happened, I don't know what, but I couldn't access anything. Then this thing called RealImage poped up and I looked at it but didn't download it. Then it just got worse......the tech folks finally got rid of RealImage and I guess that was the bug. It flushed all of my office, my AVG, and my sound (for some odd reason). I guess I was supposed to pay a ransom to them to unlock it, but I didn't.
But, anyhoo.....the lesson for everybody else is, MS10 doesn't have a recovery point like the older versions had. I guess they don't want you going back to what you had before MS10. Kinda Nazi in a way.......

I am obviously bias, I will totally admit that but an Apple Mac mini ($500 or less if refurbished or used) with your existing monitor, keyboard, mouse would be the cheapest away to test the Mac waters.

Add MS Office 365 for $70 (or $100 for family) per year and you have everything you need plus 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage for files and backups. I bought into Office 365 simply for the 1Tb of storage for me and four other members of my family. (Each gets 1Tb)

If you hate it sell the Mac Mini as slightly used and there will be several buyers to take it off your hands. (I might even know a few people)

My first iMac was bought used... It was a 2006 24" White iMac and it just failed last year. I then bought a MacBook Pro for my daughter for college in 2010 and just upgraded her this year and I'm still using that 2010 MBP in the Truck.

Also, if you only need excel, news, and TTR... Then you might look into an iPad... Does all that and much much more and is uber portable too. Right now I can do everything you listed on my iPhone 6S Plus. (But I would recommend MoneyWhiz for checkbook)

If you want to test the waters, PM me here and I will help navigate the waters of conversion.

    {steps down from my apple soapbox}

LOL .... I do totally know that...

My sister was a very happy, not rabid, Apple User (through her job) and her and I used to go round and round joking with and poking at each other in the PC vs Mac rivalry. Her Apple vs Me Microsoft

I used to be the one doing tech support for 30+ decentralized office networks in IL and IN and supported 60+ PCs on those networks.

Then I "tested the waters" before buying my girls laptops for college.

Now I AM that rabid user you mentioned. :)
and I have never looked back either.

But I always try to be very respectful to those that have yet to have their eyes opened. ;-)

But seriously, good luck getting rid of that bug... Oh, another thing that is minimized in the Apple Ecosystem... :)

Ya, we actually look forward to our annual OS updates... And willingly and gladly update to it within months, if not weeks, of release.

Not that Apple doesn't have its issues. It does.
But yes, their users are much more "happy".

Windows 10 DOES have system recovery. But since you just installed it. You don't have any recovery points to start off with.

NO it does not provide UNINSTALLATION.

If you want 8 that bad. Google instructions for system recovery for your laptop make and model.
