Yeah prob the cap on the expansion tank bleeding off pressure from bad head gasket, dropped liner ect....
Basically pressure in the cooling system
Run with the cap loose and see if it goes away.
Loud howling noise has Cummins Techs stumped.

I walk past trucks now, and hear that noise, and I'm like, oh no! Fuel pump needed soon! Good thing they took care of you. I bet if you heard that sound from another truck, you'll know what it is!KB3MMX and Bob9814992 Thank this. -
NEW UPDATE---Howling sound is still gone but.....truck made it about 1800 miles, lost oil pressure, and shut down. Had to tow it into Albuquerque Cummins. I expect it is the new oil pump that was just put on. So I am back in the shop again, under a load, and shop is saying they can't get to me til tomorrow afternoon.

Some of those pumps had press on gears that would spin free on shaft after some use, ck. if shop used a rebuilt or new oil pump, hope its a easy fix like a broken wire!
KB3MMX and Bob9814992 Thank this. -
Your old pump was with ceramic plungers( by the truck age) If plungers were cracked and mechanic didn't check it (i'm sure he didn't) abrasive ceramic particles in oil system will kill engine in about what you said distance.
Hopefully I'm wrong.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Did they fix the ceramic fuel pump with newer isx? What was last year if they corrected it?
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
But who knows probably we still have some good people here.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
From what I was told by the techs, they replaced the gears in the pump. They were to shim the gears with color coded shims. The block is marked for blue shims and they used red shims and apparently did not check the lash of the gears. The gears ate each other out and metal shavings worked through the motor and ruined it.

Oh noooooo.
Really sad. I was in your shoes exactly year ago in Houston. Shop denied to pay any money to help replace engine after their overhaul and engine was completely destroyed by monkey with wrenches.
