How does it work with dump trailers I know a 40ft trailer you can haul 80000 lbs but my question is can you still haul 80000 with a trailer that is 35ft and less as long as it is a trI axle? or how does all that work. I live in GA if it matters

STONE. that is what matters. You don't need much to gross out. Now if you volume out Stone in a big trailer it's going over gross weight. Now you probably can volume fill it with sand and probably keep your gross at 80000.
Most of the trailer dumps for stone service is short. They don't need much. I see it as a advantage over standard dumps. Other than those who carry 5 axles, three drives and two tags under a extra large dump bed in addition to the steer up front. That's 6 axles. Should be pretty good for close to 70K ...dirttrackking55 Thanks this. -

The company I work for does stone most of the yr. We run 36ft tri-axle plus a tag axle. We're allowed 39 ton in the box. 117k total gross but we only run local in western ny. YMMV

That being said, having 15' more wagon to put up in the air doesn't sound ideal to me. But wtf do I know: I'm not a legislatorGrubby, wore out, SL3406 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sure gets dicey on a windy day with that much up in the air. Make sure it's frameless less likely to take the whole truck when it flops. It ain't but when if you pull it long enough

I was recalling the 20 foot TEU container boxes loaded beyond 80K having to nurse it around the 35 mph curve south of York PA northbound on I-81. The #### thing will just about tip at 25 if you let it. I know in my hearts of hearts that 5 axle set up don't mean a #### thing except that 99K permit for grossweight in the side box but nothing for PA.
I hated chivviying those little trailers around. such a chore. If you really wanna be made to look like a dummy know nothing, get a tractor with a wheel base longer than that 20 footer. See if you can ever back it in....dirttrackking55 Thanks this. -
Dumping a frameless of stone is a cake walk now dumping a frameless of ash in the landfill can be nerve wrecking at times.we've had guys quit cause of being scared of dumping in the landfill .As far as short trailers first I'd rather have it spread out in a 39ft trailer not as high and top heavy.Second when you haul stone you usually haul something back like sand/ash/salt etc so a short trailer just isn't practical.
