Secretary Peters said those Mexican truck companies that may be allowed to participate in the one-year program will all be required to have insurance with a U.S. licensed firm and meet all U.S. safety standards. Companies that meet these standards will be allowed to make international pick up and deliveries only and will not be able to move goods from one U.S. city for delivery to another, haul hazardous materials or transport passengers.
Directly copied from the Cross Border Pilot Program. Now please show me proof that Mexico is complying with the regulations..... As we all know they haven't... that is why it needed to be shut down.kittykat Thanks this. -

Ronnocomot,
You are obviously a proponent for opening our southern border. I am not, as well as millions upon millions of American citizens. So I will put this in as simple a statement as possible - to avoid your statment shreadding of other's posts...
The American people do not want our southern border opened to Mexican trucks. It's that simple. Doesn't matter what the reasons are...we do not want our borders opened. Congress has heeded the will of the American people on this issue, yet our president and FMCSA seem to think they can do what they want against the will of the American people. This is not how it works here in America.
The people have spoken.

(I'll locate the story link you have requested and check with an administrator about being able to post it...although for someone who presents himself to know so much about this issue - I'm surprised you're not aware of this already) -
ronno you always make good points hard to argue with however it seems the trend is for cheap labor above all else. Drive up the I-5 from Dago to Orange and LA county, Stockton and Sacramento area and all you see on housing projects-hispanics . Lots of illegals I know for a fact. Lots of american born go to truck school to get a driving job and guaranteed that industry will be taken over probably by american truck companies operating out of mexico getting mexican drivers working for way less per mile. All competition for lower prices like you say till the american worker is competing with the third world eventually. (IMO anyway)

Truckers may not like it, but protectionist policies by our government hurts more businesses than there are truckers in this country..
The cheaper the store can get goods on the shelf, the more they can sell.

Mr. Stealth,
After counting the posts against your slanted opinion, it's pretty obvious that you are out numbered and losing. And will also be losing your cheap foreign labor very soon. It's a Great day and good thing when the Majority Ruled against the Losers.
I can't wait to hear your blabber about the 395 "idiots".
Landline magazine: Once again, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly has voted to put an end to the cross-border trucking program with Mexico. The members of the House voted 395-18 late Tuesday to end the yearlong program that has allowed Mexican motor carriers full access to the U.S.
