By 92% Of company standards it's against there rules to carry a firearm in there truck.
It's not illegal by federal and most state laws to carry a firearm in a truck.
So most companies care nothing for the safety of the driver. As the company makes statements like oh your a liability you can't have a gun in the truck. Your gonna shoot ppl and it will reflect us. Where do they come up with such crap? But if your asked to stay the night in a hell hole. For an AM delivery I guess your suppose to call the police after your robbed and shot dead huh?
Most OTR companies mmake stuff up as they go
Is it illegal to carry a gun in a commercial vehicle?

I recently renewed my concealed carry permit in South Dakota. They told me South Dakota is a total reciprocity state. SD honors every other states permits while you are visiting there. So anyone carrying through there should have no worries as far as SD law is concerned.

The knight transportation situation was the only case I've ever heard of in such. But there are several cases of dispatchers pissing guys off. And the driver shows up and beats dispatchers head against the desk. Maybe that's why so many companies don't allow drivers in the dispatch office, or even the entire building at some places. And no I didn't say the policies were there because they didn't care abt ones safety.

Maryland is a may issue state. Not a shall issue one. They do not recognize ANY conceal carry permit from any state. However if you were a Law enforcement you will gain an ability under Leousa to carry, even into places permit holders cannot. In fact one of the things you have to show in order to get a good reason to apply to carry is already having been a victim of violent crime in maryland previously with police report etc. I find it interesting that they bend over backwards with handguns in general but most of the problems are worked around and avoided if you have a long gun. And most particularly a historical weapon and are particpating in a living history situation.
If you travel through with your personal car, and own a CHL or permit from home state Maryland has scanners and are already aware of you and your vehicle via the license place being tied to your drivers license and permit. They will hunt you and stop you to see if you are using the federal travel protection with the gun and ammunition unloaded and locked away in the trunk etc. You cannot stop in maryland anywhere and there you lose federal travel protection as you pass through.
It starts at one thousand dollars in fines and one year jail once convicted at trial. The Wisconsin driver will have to go back to face trial in court and most likely would have lost his job with the trucking company when they find out why he was in jail etc.
It's a mess. -
Even with a concealed carry permit, you need to stay up to date on other states reciprocity with yours. My state honors most other states. but some states, like Illinois and Cali do not honor most other states permits. Also, even if your company allows you to carry, most government installations, chemical plants and some port will not allow guns on their property. You can check out different states regs at: http://www.handgunlaw.us

Having read the thread, it seems, that carrying a firearm in the truck (even with a permit) is asking for legal problems. Let's say you think you hid it well then you entered Illinois and they still find it. Are arrested on the spot? How serious is it?
