I am not going to tell you who that is and I am not going to get into a debate over the Map update. It is a business decision which I addressed this before about two weeks ago.

As I mentioned then. If you have an issue with the Map update not being applied to the x20's then simply call RM CS and let them know that the x20's should be updated.

The x20's would have to be tested and see if the older hardware is still able to maintain the ability to run the newer software/maps. They is testing criteria that has to be followed.

    Now as for Lifetime.

"Lifetime" means "Lifetime" of the unit determined by the manufacture. This is an industry standard. The older hardware sometime simply cannot keep up with the newer software/maps due to many layers of integration of different data.

    So, to clarify again..

The Map update is looking to possibly be released next week and only for the x30's. The Tablet's got the same update Aug 2016.

    Enough said.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Item 1 would apply... NOTE - the word "OR" between 1 and 2.

    Terms and Conditions
Lifetime Maps provides the original purchaser of an eligible Rand McNally device with an annual base map update for this specific Rand McNally device, when and as such update is made available by Rand McNally, until the shorter of 1) the useful life of the specific Rand McNally device, or 2) such time as Rand McNally no longer receives updated content from its map supplier. High-speed Internet connection and Rand McNally Dock software are required. Lifetime Maps is not transferable to another person or another Rand McNally product. Lifetime Updates provided by the Lifetime Maps feature apply only to the same geographic map data originally included on the specific Rand McNally device at time of original purchase.

Late to the party here. Is RM stopping map updates for the 510? Is there going to be a small version of the 740? A 540 maybe?

Yes to the x10's.. hardware cannot keep up with software/maps.

Now after yesterdays debauchery about the Map updates... this is the word... Note on the x20's ,,, it says PENDING...

510 / 710 / 7710: Updates will no longer be available. The hardware platform cannot support updated map content

520 / 720 / 7720: An update is planned for delivery via dock in Q3 2017, pending confirmation that the hardware can support the new map data

530 / 730 / 7730: Updates will delivered via dock by week of April 7

CS has the same word... So no need to play "mother/father" on the above.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,

I'd like to change the topic a bit, if I may... ;) Having seen the 740, how would you compare it feature-wise to the 80? Are there any features "missing", or any features "added"? Any usability advantages/disadvantages? I know some of this is subjective, but your opinion is valued...

    Thanks,

    Mark
