Outback Truckers

Its different that's for sure and why lots of folks like to watch it, just like folks down under love watching ICE road Truckers cause we find it down right hilarious and extremely hazardous.

 

That's one show I never got into, I thought Ice Road Truckers was pretty much manufactured drama. Not that they don't manufacture drama on Outback Truckers, but I will say this, while it's TV and TV is how it is, some of the stuff on there is real and it is pretty cool to see the snippets of reality thrown in there.

 

Erm I throw stuff at the TV set during the Ice road truckers, some of it is not necessary. It has it's moments. But there are many... built scenes for those who know nothing and will learn even less by watching these shows sometimes. Err.. I got 700 KM to go before Winnepeg.. 15 km hour durr hurr... etc. Come on...

 

That's the same setup as the one in my profile pic. Only difference mine was a mack and weighed 205t.

 

We usually charge around $2 - $3 per kilometre per trailer depending on where you are going and how rough the going is. You can get a lot more than that if the going is particularly rough. One Australian dollar is roughly equivelent to one Canadian dollar. I just got back from a trip hauling offshore oil gear from Sale, Victoria to Dampier, WA, and I was paid $23,000 for the trip up for my 2 trailers, all on good sealed roads.
The pics I took at BP Truckstop Boulder WA. There's a quad hauling gold ore @ 175tonnes/386,000 lb on short haul of up to 200 kms. The guy with the Western Star with all the trailers was going up to a job. We can only haul 3 full size trailers on public roads, or 4 if one set is a B Train.

 

Negative. With the permits you can do more. We got a special permit when another truck broke down. I connected his 3 singles of his and another driver grabbed his a trailer and ran a tripple double at the back. Ran from out the back of Newman to port headland.

We were under police escort into the dock.

 

@Ozdriver ,Mate how far from Sale did you Hook the Double Up??

 

We hook up in Moama in NSW just over the border from Echuca. It's 400 kms from Sale. I paid a guy to run down with the 2nd trailer and load it with the mud pump, manifold and fuel tank. He did 800 kms overall, usually I'd do it myself but they wanted the load to be in Dampier in 6 days so it would have been too hard to do it all myself.

 

Interesting setups, guys. I'm curious as to why the tail set on the 4-trailer rigs is a B-double, though. Minimizing the number of pivot points in the train?
