And this is why I keep harping on Mark. I really should bow out of this thread, but he's dug his feet in so deep, and is seen as an "expert" by other posters I just can't.
I've been fixing computers from '97 to .11, when I started driving. In all that time I've never had a single company say their product will work with a 3rd party adapter except for 2 reasons.
1. It's been "certified", usually including a mutli thousand dollar bribe to certify it.
2. It's a standard, like USB. But even then most have the caveat of "Will only work with fully compliant devices" or something like that wording.
The fact he refuses to see the difference in "Not guarantee" and "will not work" tells me he's in it for a reason. Since the only reason I've seen is to try and sell RM's products... Well, I'm sure you can see my I keep calling him a salesman.

Rand McNally ELD 50 questionsScooter Jones Thanks this. -
Mark, they are listed on the FMCSA registry as certified. I don't give a crap if it's self-certified or the man on the moon certified them.
I already stated way back up there on the thread somewhere that if there's ever an issue during a roadside inspection, I'll let it be known.
However, I'm pretty sure there won't be one... -

How did this become a sales thread, it's clearly nothing to do with that.
JFC already.
The issue is a stupid, poorly thought out, rammed down the public's throat type of law.
If it was done properly;
1) FMCSA should specifically certify devices.
( telling mfgs they can "self certify" is absurd given the serious repercussions of any violations to your business)
2) FMCSA should mandate a ELD data standard that all mfgs have to comply with AND require at least one connection for this specific purpose! .... mfgs should've been given a timeframe to make older trucks compatible with software updates and cables too.
Right now, everyone is TOTALLY on their own with a "ELD" device that could easily be said doesn't comply and next thing you know they're shutting your business down!!
THIS IS THE HUGE BS PART ^^
What good is any MFGs guarantee when you can still find the FMCSA putting you out of business if they don't agree with the self certification?
Poorly thought out legislation is the USA normality now. Sadly it could've been better thought out if they focused on quality of lawmaking ... Not slamming more thoughtless bills through just to satisfy special interest groups. -
Since you are so bend on this, why don't you Google the other manufacture's and post them?
And I used it strictly as an example of what one might look like. Now if you buy a RM and have a Volvo then you would need it. But, if you have another manufacture's device then I am sure they make one for their device.
So please get over the "pushing" of an Rand Product. I am not a salesman.
And since you asked,,, here is a spider on a cable.
