Most companies allow one. Did you call?
Do the online applications with the companies and see if any offer you a job. Probably make the most money with CTL Transportation.
    CTL Transportation
    Contract Freighters
    Cypress Truck Lines
    Roehl Transport

Stevens Transport - pay isn't the best, but the training is good.

I put in app with Contract Freighters. I guess we will see what happens. And yes, I called Jim Palmer. They said any accident must be 5 years old.

If you are married, you might find otr harder to accept when you actually do it. Saying it and doing it are two different things. It's a lonely miserable life, hopefully you and her don't have certain urges while you are gone.

I personally don't recommend otr for someone who is married or with children. It's the life of a hobo. I only did it for 3 months, I did Werner a huge mistake and a disaster to work for. I came home after training (Which took 3 months, they are that inefficient, sat in a hotel allot). I came home and did dump truck all summer. It's seasonal work so recently I started back in class A tanker. I haul milk now and make about 1k per week, home daily but I work 6 days a week.

That's 55k per year and home daily. If I was to drive for I would want 80k+ per year we all know that ain't gonna happen.

Thanks for the advice. I know it’s going to be very difficult being married but I’m a firm believer that a career is only as good as you want to make it. I think this applies to marriage as well and my wife supports my idea of driving. I’m a commercial fisherman now so I’m gone a lot anyways.

Tarpon springs is a lovely little Greek town. Are you a sponge diver? Best wishes in your endeavors! I'm married with kids and while very difficult it can be done. Certainly not for everyone though whether you have kids or not.

No, I’m a fisherman. Father in law is a sponge diver though.

MANY companies offer Tuition Reimbursement for CDL school. That DOES NOT mean they pay your CDL school loan. It means they give you some money on the schedule the trucking company decides that can pay all or part of the loan you took out for CDL school. You are responsible for paying your CDL school loan on the terms you agreed to. Your school loan maybe be $175 per month and the trucking company pays you $150 per month. You still must pay the school or loan company $175 per month until loan is repaid. But, in my example, you are only having to start paying on time the first month or two until the trucking company TR starts giving you money. After that you just make up the extra cash between the school loan and the TR payment to you. EVERY CDL school will find someone to loan you money if you have to borrow. Check with your state unemployment office about WOIA/WIA Grants to pay for CDL school. It's free money, if they haven't run out.

To make an analogy, the difference between local driving and OTR can be the difference between a gunfight and going hunting. One is very stressful and difficult (local) while the other is long hours getting to the moment when it becomes stressful (getting into the big cities). Local is easier in that you learn that area and you go home daily.
