I bought a battery-powered blower for $66 at Wally a few years ago. Best investment I made in equipment. But I would strongly suggest wearing a dust mask most of the time.

Try hauling bagged lamp black in a van and see what happens

Sounds like the bags of white powder I used to haul out of New Johnsonville, TN. Washing it out was about the only effective way to deal with it after unloading.

I haul a lot of C&H Sugar. The loaders/unloaders invariably poke a hole in one of the bags. I may get me one of those cordless blowers.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% !! I worked at Shaffer for over 2 yrs. I just quit in Dec. 2017. The day I turned my trk/ trlr into the Deland Terminal, I was the 5th Driver JUST THAT DAY that quit ! That tells you A LOT ! They are putting cameras, inward and outward facing, in trucks ! I avoided an accident by going up on a curb that was directly in front of a Shipper’s door. Did a little damage. They wrote me up, They put 7 ( yes, 7 ) Bad Safety points on me ( when about 15 will get you fired ), put a camera in my trk, AND mandated me to go to a Defensive Driving course ( when I avoided an accident by going up on a curb ! ). Their Safety Dept. is extreme , vindictive, and they’re pushing Drivers right out the door, even many long time Drivers. You better get fuel where they tell you AND the amount they dictate to you or there will be consequences ! I threatened to quit if those 4 extreme measures by Safety weren’t taken off of me in within a couple wks. I didn’t even receive a phone call from my Dispatcher or Safety or Tim Aschoff ( A VP who sent out QC messages every month begging for Driver referrals and more Drivers, yet didn’t care that I was going to quit ).The delays were horrendous, several hrs to get lded/ unlded ( and then being overweight a few times after getting loaded for many, many hours), waiting for them to get you a ld after I had just delivered ( even though they knew that I would be there delivering DAYS before- they were unprepared ), LATE getting home when they had weeks or a month of notice, short runs with live loads and unloads on each end for several hours each, low miles, low average paychecks, too many delays ! They get freight delivered on time, but couldn’t or wouldn’t deliver Drivers home for scheduled home time on time, after being out for a month or more !

Also, I neglected to say, the awful, extreme, and vindictive Safety Dept. at Crete ALSO slammed my DAC Report and called my “ curbing “ an accident “ !! I guess the other 4 extreme measures weren’t enough, they had to SLAM my DAC too !! What despicable people they have in Safety after my 2+ yrs with them with an accident free record. One of their terminal managers wrote me up for having too many belongings in 2016, even though they were behind the privacy curtain ! I guess that he thought that you don’t need much in your truck when you stay out for 1 to 2 months ! I guess clothes, blankets, canned food, and bottled water are worse for a truck when compared to other Drivers who have stinky dogs and/ or they smoke and stink up a truck ! My terminal manager defended that other terminal manager for writing me up, instead of going to bat for and defending her Driver ! That’s the respect that you get at Crete ! Get ready for long delays for PM’s and service at Company Shops because the Company doesn’t allow Drivers to get PM’s at Truck stop Shops. They have about 5500 trks and like 15,000 trailers and they expect all the PM’s to be done at Company Shops, what a logjam, get ready to wait and waste time as most Company Shops are not open 24/7 !

It probably didn’t turn out well, I’m guessing. Oh yeah, that “ Grand “ hotel in Desoto, TX near Dallas ! It’s like they haven’t updated anything in many decades, everything is old. The ice makers in the hallways were all broken in Nov. 2017 ! That hotel is probably cheap for Crete, with no care for Driver comforts. Crete is cheap, no PrePass , no truck PM’s at Truck Stop Shops, only at Company Shops, charge you a lot of $$ if trucks aren’t turned in perfectly clean and just like new, even w/ 400,000 + miles on the truck !

I barely made my raises at my anniversary dates even though I never refused a ld and my Dispatcher had to make a big push for me the last couple months to get my raise ! At your anniversary date you have to have run a certain no. of miles to get your raise in pay. Way too many delays, long live loads and unloads at Shaffer, delays and layovers between loads, etc.
