Companies are able to be particular in this time. I am not saying it is wrong to move to something else, just be sure of why you are. Don't buy the stories about how great this one is over where you are. If you move as a part of a long range plan, that is a different story.
Swift is a good company

My son has recently signed on to train with Swift. I have to admit I got scared about all the "he said, she said" and fully intend to make my son aware, without scaring or discouraging him. I agree, a bad attitude, lack of patience, and the real will to start from somewhere... is indeed a HUGE part of it. I'm just VERY glad I decided to check out this post and get a DIFFERENT point of view!

SheilaMae. When is your son schedule to go. I'm going on Jan-19. Let me know if he is too.

We are reducing the fleet another few hundred trucks. They are also leaning towards new drivers over experienced (never worked for Swift) drivers also. This is due to the time it takes from training to go solo, and the amount of trucks available. Hiring only needed drivers is hard to judge, this company is like a big ship that is slow to turn. Our turnover has suddenly drastically reduced (I am at 14% this morning). 3 months ago I was like 70%. It takes a month and a half to train, so if you cut hiring to deep, you wont have drivers for trucks, and not enough and you have drivers waiting on trucks. Its not as easy as you would think to gauge this.
I can always hire back a good experienced driver. I also would rather take a chance on an unkown driver, vs. an experienced driver that had problems (performance, service, safety, poor attitude etc..).
WesAfterShock, Mighty Mouse, davan2004 and 9 others Thank this.
