    I know about Galaxy’s tendency to drift off frequency until it warms up, so let’s ignore that for now. Knee jerk reaction, which radio do you choose?

    For me its uniden, I find they are less static.

    I have both and prefer the Uniden. Except for the obnoxious beep every time you change something, easy to get rid of that.

    Much easier install on the Uniden.

    It will fit easily anywhere a Cobra 29 or Uniden 78 will go and the sideways mic socket on the 959 is a nuisance.

    Galaxy has a radio with the same size and front mic, can't recall the number, and I almost picked one up back when some truckstops stocked Galaxy.

    979 is a good rig, and a sensitive receiver also. You’ll get more out of the Galaxy power wise but getting someone to tune it properly and not hack it up is key. Uniden has great SSB stability, but it isn’t the best on TX audio or power, even with a good tune up and alignment.

    Galaxy power? They are both 4 watt single final radios so power is same + or - a watt, if you crank up the modulation pot on the 979 and with the mosfet final it will pep to more watts, if that really makes a difference. Will agree the modulation is louder on a Galaxy 979 but the modulation is crystal clear and smooth on the 980 stock out of the box and the receive , from my experience, is second to none.
