Is it legal to dispatch a truck that is leased onto another company and use their authority number when booking the load?
in my other post, you know I am dispatching for my dad under his authority. A friend of his also wants me to dispatch for him, but he operates under another companies authority as he does not have his own. Am I permitted to book loads for him?
he leases his trailer from this company as well. Or would it be better to use my dads MC number and this guy as another driver under our company.

your on a slipery slope and could be liable if he is leased to somebody else he is probably insured by them and he does a load for you under the table without them knowing he is in violation of his lease and is not insured probably could get him for trailer theft also
-
Is he wanting to quit the other company? If he is, he can lease on under your daddies MC#, You would have to put his truck, trailer, on your dads Insurance Policy, then when you book him loads, use your MC# and Ins. Cert.

When somebody is operating under your authority you have to have a driver's qualification file on them. Your Dad should have one for himself .

This other driver and truck would also have to be qualified by your insurer . You can see that isn't an option . The load would have to be booked to his carrier but you'd need a broker's license .Msticlaru Thanks this. -
I just called him a few hours ago, and he said that he has permission to book his own loads with their MC#? im not sure if that "bypasses" everything else or what. -
who is insuring him???

he pays for his own ins on the truck, and the trailer is leased through his company and on their ins (but he pays)

Something doesn't add up . If he is leased to a carrier they are supposed to pay the $750,000 liability and cargo insurance . He would have to pay comprehensive and bobtail insurance only . Have you asked your Dad about this ? You are trying to make yourself known to shippers . In my opinion there is little to be gained here and a lot of risk to your reputation .

As long as the loads you book for your dad's friend are set up under the company he is currently leased to, you would be fine. You cannot book them under your dad's authority. Basically you are a load finder for your dad's friend's company. I would check with that company first and make sure they don't have a problem with it. Someone there will have to sign the contract, accept the load, check the credit, etc. Unless you have a written agreement with them to act on their behalf, DO NOT DO IT.
