Just so I'm understanding you right, and not that it really matters, but you went straight at the light with the Pilot on the right. That road in front of the Pilot (with RR tracks on the left) is US Hwy 45, which is a truck route and comes back to I-57 about 10 miles down the road from that Pilot.

That's exactly it. I went down 45 about 6 miles before trying to turn around. There was no place to pull over to plan, and that long industrial stretch began turning into a downtown/residential area. I had no idea what was further on, only that it was getting worse and there was no expectation of anything anytime soon.
I had a situation like that in MN as well where I missed a turn and I went on about 12 miles before turning, and even then it was at an intersection, made a left, backed up through the intersection again and then made a left back where I was coming from. That's where the cows were. -
Up until a couple years ago it would have been blatantly obvious which way to go to enter the Pilot. It used to be you pulled into the fuel island from that side street facing north. Trucks would be backed up out onto Hwy 45 when they were really busy. Because of that, Pilot finally switched stuff around and now you go in through the parking lot and loop back to the fuel island facing south.

Right, making this now the only pilot in existence that doesn't route you through the pumps before letting you catch a glimpse of a parking spot.
Anyway it sounds like there are good reasons for it to be the way it is, but they didn't help a first-timer to that location. All they need is a sign at the light to sort things out.
Not that they would care, but I haven't been to a pilot for even coffee since. I'm MAD at them! -
Well man, just make a note to call me if you ever find yourself confused at any truckstop in Illinois or Indiana or western KY. I'll be able to help you out cheaper than that tow truck did.
PharmPhail Thanks this. -

is it the 618 number?
I don't actually have a text plan, so when I get them it just tells me I have one and to go to a website to check it out with a login id and password... it's the silliest thing. But I see I got a message from such and such number, so that much I can see. -
That's it. 618 is the area code for southern IL

Now that I know you don't have a text plan, I'll stop FWDing stuff to you.
