Renewed CDL Jan 2019 after a 1 yr break at my local DMV. I was told I did not need to submit anything else or send in anything that everything was taken care of there. Received a self-certification letter 10 days later so I called my local DMV asking about it since I was told I did not need to fill anything else out. Guy said I did not send it in, I had already filled it all out with him. So, I threw it away. Never received ANYTHING else from the DMV so I assumed, just as he said, all was good. Hired for job 5 days ago, and my CDL license came back showing DISQUALIFIED, even my Class C as INACTIVE. I was shocked and confused when he told me,had NO idea. So called my local DMV, they said it is because I never sent in the self-certification letter!! Told the guy THEY told me I did not have to send it in, that they had submitted everything. He said to call Raleigh DMV. I cannot get ahold of anyone at the Raleigh DMV and have left messages. I am going to lose this new job I have been working hard to get for the past couple months because of this. Anyone know what happens now? Will I have to take the test to get my CDL all over again and a new medical card and everything?Medical card is good util 12-2019. Or will I be able to submit the self-certification still even since it is past the deadline?

Your CDL is tied to your Medical Card.

Both are valid for Class One (Tier One Commerce Interstate or intrastate.)

If medical card kaput, your CDL no good. Back to car driving you go.

IF you know your med card is KAPUT soon like in 1 week and your doc is booked for 6 more...

The Tier system says IF... you walk into your state's DMV and swear out a Tier TWO document, it is literally one paragraph and a oath based signature with your handwritten full legal name. THEN the state says ok, you DONT drive for a living in a BIG rig BUT YOU DO KEEP YOUR CDL without a medical.

    Really simple.

You have to open your mouth and ask the DMV drone behind his or her desk for a Tier two paper to sign for your grandfathering CDL rights. You get to keep CDL but cannot work in Tier one interstate or intrastate. But maybe you can run a farm truck to market. It will get you enough to tide you over until you get that nice big DOT medical card.

Some STATES... are generous in recognizing those who held Class A or CDL A in the past of their lifetime. if more than one year ago. I can walk into any Arkansas DMV any time and get a tractor trailer, 50 bucks and birth cert and back to Tier TWO CDL A Grandfather I am. Under our Grandfather Law. No full school no big courses no gigantic testings and expenes. It's silly. Until I get a Valid DOT medical card I cannot touch a big truck for .50 a mile in state or around the USA and CAnada.

My particular issue is strictly medical. I have essentially end of life stroke level BP into the 200's some days like tonight, I pulled a 190/150 and am hydrating for a while until that volume falls it down. like it has done in the past. My heart is a battleship but the other organs are not.

Once I get refills on beta blocker I will be ok right back to normal.

The other part is narcotics. I eliminated 4, I have a refill for two months pending. I will take them and on the shelf they sit. And if I don't touch them, back to the doctor they go and he can have it, I would be done with that. What is matta? Just sheer gumption. When you have had pain long enough as I have you don't need medicine anymore. It's over. Then you are clear and ready to go to work in about a year.

    Just self certify again..

Not sure if your state lets you do it online but in Florida where I’m at it only takes a couple minutes. I take a picture and upload it to them..that’s it. In a day or so I can check online if it was accepted.

My medical card is good for 2 years, does not expire until 12/23/2019 so 5+ months before I need to get a new one. They have my medical card on file.
The local DMV guy entered I was non-excepted interstate commerce. So when I got the form asking me the same thing, that is why I called them and was told they had entered everything when I was there already and to just throw it away.

I am in NC, I cannot find anyway to submit it online. Raleigh DMV, main headquarters for NC, for me is a 5 hour drive and my Class C shows inactive now so I cannot even drive a car, all my driving privileges have been revoked. I cannot get anyone at the Raleigh DMV on the phone and no one has returned my messages to ask what I need to do exactly.
The letter said I had 60 days to submit the self-certification and April 1st, 2019 was the 60th day. So I am 3 months past the 60 day time limit.
Can it really be as simple as submitting the self-certification letter still?

Fill out the self certification forms again, make and keep a copy for your records, and mail the original to them registered mail with a signature confirmation.

In the meantime keep on trying to get someone on the phone and make sure you get their full name so you can reference it if you need to in the future.

It is Official Sworn Affidavit, one paragraph and your signature attesting under oath. If you have a VALID medical card, show that to the DMV person and sign a Tier ONE full interstate and intrastate as she makes a copy of that valid new medical.

Otherwise grandfather under Tier two where your CDL A is protected until you get a valid medical card to go back to work.

A big strong trucker like yourself will be more than able to run 5 hours next door to Raleigh in the beautiful hills and hollows of NC. Just think. Potentially by dinner tonight you will have resolved this in person. Done an done either way.

As a side note, make sure you bring everything you need prepared to test out in writing etc if the drones require of you. States are lumbering monolithic creatures bound by incessant chipping of misguided laws that some of us do not understand until they do get downgraded these days. It's a relatively recent invention by a Government intent on having no one medically unfit to be on the big road for a living.

Yea, I have no problem driving that, that is nothing compared to what I drive in a week, except my CLASS C is also suspended..all driving privileges are suspended, so driving on a suspended license and risk getting caught, I cannot risk.

Called local DMV again, this time a nice lady answered and told me it was just a glitch in their system. System shows medical card on file, renewal, and self-certification letter but their system is glitched showing a restriction when I have no restrictions. So still have to contact Raleigh DMV Commercial Medical Certification Unit to get it taken care of. Will continue to call. Hoping it is just as simple as 1 phone call and a "glitch". That being said, sure sucks risking a huge fine, job, and more all due to a glitch in their system!!

    Oh.

I am the one who overlooked the small detail of suspension. I get very focused one track mind to a solution.

Dont risk a fine. If this suspension can be cleared off your CDL without risk or stain you will be very happy. I promise.

If you can't make the drive. Can you hire an attorney to go for you? Taxi?
I would find a way there and get the "glitch" fixed.
Plan to stay a couple days if needed.
    Good luck

Update: Paid $236 for round trip ride to Raleigh DMV. Expected to be there hours or heck, days. Nope, took all of 10 minutes! Lady says, "oops, sorry, it is a system glitch." They had all my info in the system but the system had a restriction on my license that should not had been on there. When I renewed my license at my local DMV they entered my self-certification then, but the system, even though it was entered and showed the info, when I did not mail back the self-certification letter they mailed me, because I was told I did no have to they already had the information from my local DMV, the system put a restriction on my license for the letter not being returned...even though the system already had the info!!! So it suspended my Class A and Class C!! So a few clicks on her computer and it was all taken care of, license active and legal again. She proceeded to laugh and tell me how lucky I am to not had been pulled over, in an accident, DOT checked, and etc. because my license had this "glitch" for the past month, without me even knowing or being notified, and I could had been ticketed, fined, truck towed, or worse and she laughed about it. While there, I get notification the company I spent months trying to get hired on, that finally had an opening and hired me, and was going to start work for, decided since my license showed SUSPENDED when they checked, to not hire me. Tried explaining it was DMV glitch and they could call to verify it was active now, was told sorry, it did not look good and they were hiring someone else. Out $200, time, stress, and a lost job!! Sad part, she said it happens frequently. Since it is a system glitch you get no notifications about it. This should not happen AT ALL!! Yet it does and they get away with it. Who cares whose livelihood it affects. Glad it is fixed but livid what this "glitch" has cost me. I will from now on be checking my license status monthly just incase. After this ordeal, I would suggest everyone else check theirs too.
