I know an O/O who joined a drug pool through his county health department . Check with local hospitals . It's tough going by the rules when you are self employed . Normally a driver would be routed near a clinic and told to get tested . They are required to be tested immediately after notification . I don't know how that's possible for an O/O working for himself .

    Read through this link carefully:

    http://www.ooida.com/Benefits&Services/Services/CMCI/cmci.pdf

CMCI (the Consortuim we use) notifies us by US Mail when one of our drivers has been randomly selected. It is then the responsibility of the Designated Employer Representative (DER) to notify the driver.
As a one-truck independent, you cannot be both the Applicant and the DER. This would defeat the purpose of random testing. Independents will use their LLC name as the Applicant, and his/her personal name as the DER, which is stretching the rules a bit.

You don't need a drug test to get your MC authority granted. However, you need to have proof of a pre-employment drug test in your driver qualification file before you get behind the wheel.

Under the New Entrant Safety Assurance Program, all new Motor Carriers are to recieve a Safety Audit within 18 months of starting up.

    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/NewEntrant-faq.asp

Based on what I've seen, it is unevenly implemented by the individual states, so you will have to check with your home state Motor Carrier Division to see when/if you will be audited.

Thanks for all of the replies but still no one seems to know for sure about this drug pool and how it works with me being the only employee and owner. One reply stated that they get informed by US mail that one of their drivers has been selected, is this the same for me? Any one that is a one man company that can help me on this subject I would greatly appreciate it!! And knows exactly for sure how it works being the only employee and owner.:biggrin_25525:

    Are YOU Kidding Me????????

We have given you a pile of information... Seems to me what you want is someone to hold your hand and GIVE you ALL the answers.... Your not going to make it very far if you cannot research and read for yourself. Sorry if this seems harsh but your in for a long hard ride and someone may as well be straight forward with you now before you end up in the soup line.... Good Luck.

The dumbest question you can ask is the one that you dont. Sorry I seemed to have annoyed you with this question but if you look through the replies I dont see one that says how it exactly works if your the employee and owner, I see replies that seem unsure and replies from people with more than them being a driver. Know one seems to know how you get contacted for this random if your the owner and employee. Sorry to have such a long thread but it seems like a simple straight forward question to someone in the same position as me that went throgh this already.:biggrin_25519:

I am going to try this ONE more time.

    http://www.ooida.com/Benefits%26Services/Services/CMCI/CMCI_requirements.shtml

Read the article and then if you do not find the exact answer you want then call the people that sponsor such service.... as a one driver, one truck Personally I could care less how it works.. The FMCSA requires me to be registered in a random drug pool, have the documents so my parts done. LOL

If I were you, I would join the Mid-West Truckers Assn, in Springfield, they will have all the anwers you need and have their own drug testing pool. Their number is 217-525-0310, or they have a website, mid-westtruckers dot com.

My dad and I have a little trucking business, just us 2 and 2 trucks. We're in the random drug testing program, we get picked maybe one of us, every other year. They send you a letter, then a collector calls about a week later and you set up a time, lately, they come right to the house and get a sample (Which to me, seems to defeat the whole purpose, because you'd have to be a total idiot to not be able to cheat it somehow, in your own house, when you know the very time they will be there. But we're not drug users, and it satisfies the DOT requirements, so who cares....I digress)

I belong to CMCI and I'm a company of 1. It's kind of weird. You get notified that you have been selected and you take the test. The results come back to me and me alone. Then it's up to me to decide what to do with me if I fail.
