You're a better man than me. I got tired of the flying. I would NEVER step foot on a Greyhound (or any other) bus. No way in hell I would spend hours on end on one of those things. I don't care what I was getting paid. lol
They try and find dedicated recovery guys because they can't get existing teams to split up and bring a truck back because they know better. It would take a whole lot more money than that to entice me. Learn how to defend yourself too if you don't already. Be prepared for ANYTHING. Good luck. My money is on 7 weeks and you will have had enough.
Now this is just my opinion but working for a company like CR England is bad enough but then to be a repo man for them, well, I am not sure there is enough karma in the universe to save you. Riding in a bus? Not going to happen. I know someone has to do it but I am sure you can find work doing something more beneficial to man kind. Like putting on a wig and a dress and working the bar rush,
If they flew you, I think it would be ok. But like you said you get on a bus where you gotta go from SLC to Florida or Virginia, you'll never be the same. I started with CRE in 2005, did 3 months and went JB Hunt. CRE was one of the weirdest experiences of my entire life. JBH flew you to orientation, and anywhere you needed to go if they wanted you to pick up a tractor from another terminal. I can only begin to imagine what the interior's of some of the trucks you are going to recover will look like. Feces and splooge smeared all over. ZOMG LOL, you must keep us posted. I do sincerely hope you don't get sick, catching some bug from some freak that has left more than one of his / her bodily fluids in the cab. I picked up this really nice Century at JB once. Crank it up. Turn on the AC. The dude had urinated all in the vents. Dunno how they ever fixed that LMFAO.
It was not a good experience uncomfortable, crazy people, it would take two days to go 5 hundred miles, get to some where like topika ks at 3 in the morning get a cab go search for a truck. Thought it would be cool something different then del. Freight it was not fun
My first question is if they are paying for motels. There is no WAY I would even consider a sleeping bag on some who-knows-what-happened mattress. I'd be bringing a hammock and sleeping bag for sure. Could you imagine running a black light inside some of the sleepers??? Ugh. No thanks. I once took a greyhound from Detroit Mi, down to Houston, Tx. We went over to Atlanta, then down to New Orleans and across. Imagine every 3-4 hours they'd make you get off the bus, or transfer buses at 2 am, or trying to nap next to a stranger, or trying to FIT next to a large stranger. That was a LONG 48 hours. Good luck!! Take lots of pictures!!
Is it $160 a day whether you work or not? A driver running $0.40 500 miles a day 6 days will earn $1200 gross plus any accessorials. $160 a day times 7 is $1120 bucks. Now, if they only pay you when you are en route to recover a truck, then what about the times there is no truck to travel to recover? No pay?
Sorry to the poster don't mean to down your new deal. I do hope it works for you. Like I said it was a long time ago when I did that. Do wish you good luck.
Man I would spend a day with my company just to clean up a issued truck. I can't imagine what CRE trucks that were abandoned what they will be like.
