Awesome info. I'll be looking at Old D in Jan when graduation is in sight. I wouldn't mind the long haul if I get home in a reasonable time. Hotel/truck sleeper I'm not stuck on.

 

OD soubnds good to me, what are the requirements to get on there. I have my class As that i acquired from swift by going thru their training. I have driven for them solo for a lil over a month, i got tired of their low pay and bs.

 

Does a "newbie" need prior experience to come on board with Old Dominion?

 

From what the recruiter from the Atlanta terminal told us was you needed to be in the top 85% of your class. Be an adult - not a baby that needs hand holding & attitude is everything. Have a positive work ethic, realize that as newbies we will get the crap no one else wants. That isn't any different from other occupations when you start out. A dollar is a dollar, no matter where it comes from, keep the left door shut and the wheels rolling and WE make money.
Everybody is always mentioning "Home Time". I asked him "What if I don't want to come home, do I have to?" Nope, you can drive as many miles as you want but you will have off time to max of 6 days after 23 out.
I'm waiting to be "down sized" probably at the beginning of the year. When that happens OD here we come with an attitude of - Nothing in our wallet and where are we going today?

 

I am currently in truck driving school. Got my CDL Learner's Permit this past week. Start yard and behind-the-wheel training next week. One of the school's owners talked with me about O-D. Said it was GREAT!!! From what I have read here, it sounds like it is so. Would like some input from current drivers. When I graduate in about 3 weeks or so, I would like to work out of the Greensboro terminal. Are they hiring? What would a newbie get as for a route? Thanks in advance for any input!!!
