I can't imagine running that long. I ran mine to 20,000 and expected it to lock up on me lol.

Thanks for the information, my experience is with 12.7 , nothing newer than that, it's a good engine, making up for the experience with the old 318

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

My understanding of the modern triple stage oil filtering is that as long as the oil still holds its viscosity and isn't full of material you can keep running the oil without concern, changing it just wastes money. If you run regular oil samples and they all come back the same, viscosity fine, wear metals fine, no coolant or water or fuel present, and it hadn't started breaking down (oil composition) you can run it up to factory recommended interval, 50k.

    DD15 freightliner cascadia 2014
    910,500 miles right now
    Doesn't burn oil
Still get 6 2 to 7 mpg drive at 70 mph cruise control.
Still closes up hills with no problem 80,000lbs
Oil changes 50,000 miles full synthetic summer
    Semi synthetic winter
Small amount oil seepage around oil pan
Changed all injector and cups at 820,000 miles
Def system 1 nox sensor doser injector and Def injector.
Now said engine has been great everything hook to the engine is another story I've changed
    Water pump
    Radiator &
    Hoses
    Batteries
    King pins
    Clutch @ 750,000
    Starter
    Several sensors
    Hard line for compressor
    Unloader valve
    But really not that bad
I do 95% of my own repairs that has made it I've only been down 1 week in 3 years
I NEVER IDLE LONGER THEN 5 MINS I

how long did the factory equipment last, and was the replacement a preventative repair or catastrophic necessity?

Everything I did was out of necessity.
The radiator started leaking at the top actually had trouble finding this I could just see proof of the Anti freeze drip regularly. The radiator hose blew on me and then I replace them all at the same time for preventable purposes.
The injectors happened mainly because of electronic failure and not necessarily the injector itself nonetheless you have to change the whole injector But I try to be cheap about it and only change one injector then a month later I lost another injector a month after that I lost 2 injectors then I . change the rest of them I should just change them on the 1st place.

DD15 coolant pumps will go out about 350k, easy change right out in open,
I stay proactive and change things before they fail. Belts tensioner and such every 200k. Oil changes 30k I use VALVOLINE blue 15/40.
    I have a 15 model with a little over 800k
Has a Apu lifetime of 4% idle time
Very little in way of emissions issues. Few sensors and such, Def filter changed every 150k very easy to do.
Injector pass thru seals will start seeping not a hard job to do or expensive.
No injectors yet. I limit the amount of bio garbage and where this truck runs can usually 5% or less bio garbage. No fuel additives except a bottle of power service
Silver bottle. Every oil change in fuel.

my 2020 DD15 has 250 k.on it now and except for 2 nox sensor has been a great engine. Sand maintenance as my 15 model.
I spend more on maintenance as I stay proactive and do not wait for parts to wear out. Air driers get rebuilt every year
Trucks greased every 10k, oil changed 30k
I do not believe in extended oil drain intervals. Hence the reason I don’t run synthetics.

Both trucks are western star 5700’s
Both are in the 7’s year year round.
    Good solid engines.

If your use to driving a 60 series the DD15
Likes low rpm and let it pull down to 1100 rpm before down shifting. Not sure on automatic transmission. But my 18’s in both trucks They pull good down low that’s where the torq is anything above 1400 is just pissin fuel out the exhaust.
Now they don’t pull like a Cummins but also don’t have the issues Cummins has. Pick your poison they all have issues. But DD 15 is a good solid engine
