alright well the atenna i settled on was a wilson lil will with a 36 inch whip and magnetic base. Once i started thinking if figured the magnet mount was the way 2 go and the lenght of the whip isnt to big so when i go out into the woods or play in the mud it will be easy to remove and the whip wont hit every tree out on the trail. so what do you guys think i can expect out of this setup..... i know hieght is might but i dont feel like ruining tall whips out on the trial

You will grow to hate that Little Wil.

And i have to say that if your going trail riding and are worried about the trees and such then the only antenna that will stand that kind of abuse is going to be a steel whip!

The Little Will's are very cheaply made and have issues
with corrosion after one or two times of getting wet.

They literally rust with in days,it progress's very quickly

Yes, however as Carolina Thunder said if your going on the trails a 102 whip would be your best choice and cheaper than a lil wil also.

The weather is on about 162 mhz and a 1/4 wave is about 17 inchs # 162.

If you want to pick it up you might try a 17 inch wire sticking out of the base if the wip.

As God is my judge you can pick up anything on a 102 Steel whip!

Before i got my ham ticket i used to run my Yaesu ( ham rig ) in my truck just to listen to. I used a 102 whip and i would hear people talking on every frequency that the radio would receive. Could listen to the highway patrol, local police, airline pilots,cb radio, weather channels,AM/FM broadcast stations and other hams talking from around the world. That antenna will receive anything, receive it very well and that's the truth!
