It's not what we are running into.... It's what is running into us!

Anyhow, I believe everything in that thread is priced as having your own authority. I'm leased to a carrier & get out a little cheaper. Granted, I'm not making the money as I would if I had my own authority.... But I don't have the headaches of trying to find my own loads, ifta reporting, or all those other headaches.

Please let me know what your final decision is on this, or if you find any good info, as I'm pretty much in the same boat. I have experience, but from many years ago, so they tell me it means nothing. It seems that the only options are: a) go ahead a buy a truck and try to find someone local to drive for for a while, or b) drive for someone with a training program for a year, like Swift or Schneider.

Neither is really the preferred way to go, but sometimes ya just gotta do what ya just gotta do.

    Note: I live in Eagan.

MN has been hit pretty hard in the economy, I hear all the time about union guys with 25+ years seniority getting laid off. I would strongly recommend reading the link that Pharm posted in this thread. It’s a long tale, but it is worth reading. I’m on page 175 and I’m about 90% sure this is not the path for me. At least the over the road part. I don’t think I could stay away from my wife and kids for weeks at a time. I don’t know how a marriage could survive what these guys do.

Actually I'm home quite a lot. Definitely every weekend and sometimes through home during the week. Was only away 1 full night last week.

    Your mileage may vary though.
