I'm having a related issue with my truck, a 2014 ProStar. It just started today. After the truck has been turned off and I start the engine the wipers will come on for several minutes at low speed and eventually shut off by themselves. While they are on I have no control over the speed and pushing the button for washer fluid does nothing. Once they stop on their own accord, everything functions again as per usual.

The wiring likes to rub through on the steering column where it tilts. Also, when they are on, if you remove the fuse the wiper washer and they quit after 5 more sweeps, then the wiring to the washer pump has a partial short to ground somewhere.

Okay. Using all the information posted in this thread, (Heavyd is awesome) here's what I've found.

    • When I pull the washer motor fuse it makes no change.

    • If I unplug the wiper switch the wipers suddenly go to high speed and stay there.

    • The wiper power relay is too hot to touch with your hands.

    • The wipers of course shut down when the relay is removed but come back on the moment it's returned.

    • I'm not see anything wrong with the wiring, but I can't see it all. I'll have to remove some components to access more.

The wiper power relay should only be triggered on when the wipers are turned on, so it being hot shows it is either stuck, being commanded on by the body controller, or wire between the 85 and the body controller is shorting somewhere.

Unplugging the wiper switch and it going on high speed is a normal response. This also proves the wiring between the wiper switch and body controller are ok.

At this point, try to swap the wiper relay with a different relay to rule out a failed relay. Next, because this seems to happen only at key on for a time and then return to normal, try to disconnect the batteries for 1 minute to reboot the body controller.

After that, you will need to connect Diamond logic software to it to see why it is being commanded on.

It's 50/50. It is totally possible to have the cab controller or remote power module power and control all the extra lights. It depends what the body builder did. We have seen trucks ordered from the factory with the extra controller outputs and body builder complete ignore them and not use them and hardware their own switches in instead.

My issue ended up being the motor, or controller inside. It worked only on high, didnt return to bottom, everything else seems to have tested ok - switch, relay, reset BCM. Gave a new motor a try, and it worked perfect.

Heavy I know it’s an older post but having a problem with my 2016 prostar, originally wipers would not shut off so had to pull relay, I replaced the switch and now the wipers will turn off but only work on high and don’t return to original position when off. When I turn wipers on lower setting can hear relay clicking. Also replaced wiper motor and didn’t help.

    thanks

Check your mega fuses at the firewall by the air filter, one might be popped.
