im 20 with a class A, 2 years yard jockey experience...im a casual at ups freight but im going BROKE making $10.50 an hour and only getting 20-30 hours a week
im not looking for a road job, or even a tractor trailer job
will companies hire me at age 20 driving a straight truck locally, or maybe a construction company to drive a dump truck? i need to make more money NOW...UPSF doesnt understand that just cuz casuals are young dont mean we dont have bills to pay, i dont make enough money
my dad told me to try small local companies but every one i called told me there either laying off or not hiring
class A no restriction but also no endorsements (gotta be 21 to get them)
who will hire me under 21?

Don't count on a driving job, its mostly due to the insurance company's policy. Unforntaely Freebird regardless of your driving record you are in the age group (male 16-24) that staticsally has the highest accident average.

yea i know it sucks, ive never had an accident and my only ticket was a $25 seatbelt ticket 3 years ago

The insurance company kills you as mentioned. Possible to try a paving company?

ive probably applied at 25+ jobs the last 3 days, im going broke and have a strong feeling ill be layed off soon

Construction companies Ive been driving a ready mix truck since I was 18 and my driving record isnt the best. Normally start out 12-14 hourly depending on where your from.

Just keep trying and take the first offer you get. Don't just send out applications. go in and talk face to face and let them see that you ain't no punk kid but a respectable young man whos as good as anyone with the same experience. If they find out you're 20 before they get to speak to you then you don't have much of a shot.

local companies that run only in state is about all you will be able to get. you will not be able to run over the road til you are 21. and most companies want you to be 23 before they will hire you to run over the road. so waste management, dump trucks, construction, city, state, and anything that does not cross the state line.
oh, maybe even drive a grain truck for a farmer.
but being under 21 will limit you where you can go and what you can do.Freebird135 Thanks this. -
ive been looking for yard jockey (hostler) jobs but i never see them listed, must not be much of a demand for them
my limitations until i turn 21 which is only in 2 months are no out of state, no hazmat, and no doubles...i believe thats it
i hope i can find something, before i go broke....i paid $4000 cash for my CDL school, that was when i worked 50 hours or more a week......now our hours are cut
sorry just venting lol......thanks for all the replies -
Try talking to a FDX Ground driver, most are O/Os,one of them Might be able to steer you to something.Again your age might get in the way. Good Luck.
