I stay out 4 weeks at a time and go home usually for 4-5 days. I notice if I run hard Tuesday thru Friday and go home Saturday or Sunday coming out Wednesday or Thursday i can keep from being in the hole. Or run hard Tuesday thru Monday and go home Monday thru Thursday I do well and not in the hole. Just balance it out. My fixed cost are $825 a week, with fuel and maintenance I need to run 1260 miles to break even after that I'm making money. Once I get my APU on Sept 14th that number will drop, I idle an extra $175.00 a week in fuel because I'm on a CPAP machine during sleep.

I love it when I hear drivers says too much work, if you walk to the other side of the parking lot drivers are crying about not getting enough work. JCT has the work and if your willing to take it they'll give it to you. The 4 weeks at a time I'm out here it's all about work and that I do and thank JCT everyday for it.

Yep and I bet 5 quit because JCT ask them to drive to much LOL........ or they ran with their foot to the floor and got poor fuel mileage in that thing. You have to quickly learn Progressive Shifting with those trucks or you'll get in trouble quick.

    Progressive Shifting Technique
Gears 2 and 3 shift about 1100-1150 rpms
Gears 4 and 5 shift about 1200 rpms
Gears 6,7,8 shift about 1250 rpms
Gears 9 and up no higher then 1300
Only hit 1400-1500 rpms on hills if necessary.

Shift this way and you'll notice your fuel mileage go up. Use the engines torque it's their for a reason. Shift with the tach not your ear, I know most of you are vets at this but it does help get better fuel mileage.

But unfortuantely most people like shifting at 1500-1700 rpms in every gear so they can scream from stoplight to stoplight. God forbid that Freightliner Century gets there before me LOL. Above 1550 rpms during acceleration the valves start to float allowing fuel to pass by without being used properly thus losing fuel mileage.

Also IDLE as little as possible, shut off the motor at fuel island while filling out that log book, at the dock. Anytime possible shut it off.

Alanp613 and The Challenger Thank this.
