Brake chambers..

Swapped all of my rear ones out with Haldex life seal chambers. waiting on some warmer weather to do the fronts. Not a bad job and there are plenty of youtube videos out there if your not sure. Since your truck is a 2016 I doubt you'll have anywhere near the corrosion my 01 has being in the northeast all of its life.

 

The broken spring inside is usually takes out its diaphragm. When I am under truck or trailer with brakes released, I hit the maxi can with my hand and make it shake or kinda vibrate. If the spring inside is broke usually it rattles.

 

Depends on the brand. There is no regulation that states spring brakes must be sealed. Some brands started sealing them too limit litigation from idiots and ambulance chasing lawyer. But other brands are still serviceable.

 

whn one goes i replace them all. they are cheap.
Same goes for air bags, although, i replace the bags before one blows

 

Normally them cans "blowing out" isnt a weekly or monthly occurence. Ive had one on a tractor and one go out on a random company trailer in around the last 3 years... so replacing all may be overkill. Often when they pop...you can rev up the throttle (to keep up air pressure) and at least get them safely off the road before you cant move. If you dont wanna camp out on side of road for 4 hours waiting on Mechanic ...then..If you are skilled with a pair of decent VISE GRIPS you can typically "pinch off" the hose going to the bad can...and keep on truckin. JMO

 

I think overkill also..but each to their own. Didn't want to start a big discussion on what way is best..lol.

 

Pinch it off with vice grips? Are you kidding me? I might do that to move it around the farm, but out on the road that's just asking to cause a major accident. Cage it off properly or don't touch it.

 

Edit: I didnt put in there: pinch it off to get 30 miles or whatever to a repair shop.Not a permanent fix.

 

Again, I will state that's asking for problems. If you were blocking the travel lanes vice grips cam get you to the shoulder, but to travel like that is very dangerous. A good pot hole will pop those vice grips open.
Brake cans have an access hole to cage them off for a reason.
