I think, without any judgment attempt against you, your wearing them at work violates the traditional American truck driver dress code.
Old school drivers, who take pride in who they are and what they do, may find it disrespectful. Sort ouf Travesty, if you will.
It is seen as sloppy and unprofessional...it can also be projected to an image of someone who is violating other behavioral codes. For instance, it is hard to imagine a well cut, clean shaved person wearing pants and collar shirt, and of course, laced working boots to be that filthy pig leaving piss jars on parking lots while a person who is dressed rather frivolously and making little of once established standards, could be seen as capable of it.

This thread is good example of why I don't like a whole lot of truck drivers.

Way back when most of you were probably a stain on your mother's panties, I was a long haired trucker with bell bottom pants, suspenders, a "disco sucks" t-shirt and red Chuck Taylor basketball shoes.
I caught the whispers and comments all the time about my long hair and manner of dress, didn't bother me at all because I was beyond my years as far as trucking experience goes, way ahead of the curve.
(was also too big and scary for them to say it to my face)

Stupid pecker woods were always talking like a gaggle of gossiping old women behind my back and making fun of my red runners, back when cowboy boots, push button shirts, chain drive wallets and pie plate belt buckles were the uniform of the day.

I could give a rat's butt if someone drives barefoot and wears a loin cloth or ballet slippers and a too-too!
If they drive like serious pros instead of yay hoo cowboys and brain dead potatoes and put their work boots on when absolutely necessary, I'll sit and have coffee with them, but not in the "reserved for professional drivers" section, way back in the corner so they can gossip freely without fear of reprisal and out of earshot by me.

I saw a lady trucker the other day in yoga pants. If I was a multimillionaire I couldn't afford the cost of the brain bleach to erase the psychological trauma it caused.
