I went back to mechanic school at age 45. Fixed transit buses for 8 1/2 years, then got sick of the b.s. and went back on the road.
I would've liked to do reefer work, but I can't seem to break into that sector, yet. Good luck. -
One refrigerated trucking company I worked for, the refrigerated trailers had Isuzu diesel engines.

I am far from being a mechanic and a lot closer to being an old man but I used to do most of the maintenance on my truck and all of our trailers. I know that after laying on a creeper under the truck or trailers for most of the day, I would really feel it in my shoulders. All that overhead wrenching can get to you...

Get into heavy equipment. I know this will sound backwards but its actually a lot easier on the body. That and the fact you don't have salt water dripping all over you 6 months a year.
