Just because they buy it and take it to the truck doesn't mean they're going to operate the vehicle while they're under the influence. Most road drivers live in their trucks, so what they do in their off time is one thing...

If you're planning on drinking and then driving, you're out of your mind and need to be shot, it's bad enough in a car, let alone an 80,000# Truck.

I had a friend who kept beer in his cooler, nothing was ever said about it, ofcourse he never drank until he was on his break... The fact that he carried it around with him made me cringe, because i knew what would happen if he was caught with it, but he diddn't care. If you think about it, even though they say they can go into your truck anytime that they want, they really can't without probable cause so the odds of getting busted with it are slim to none, unless you give them probable cause, or consent.

I guess that's what the 20+ driver's I have caught this year think. Maybe the 4 that were DUI thought that as well. The last one, this Tuesday, when we called the carrier, fired him on the spot. Had another driver there within 2 hrs to pick up the truck.

I have yet to ever be asked to have my truck searched even in a Level 1. I have no problem with it.

It has been searched going to Canada once and many times returning to the US.

I have nothing to hide, so I do not care.

This is how we lose our freedom - How would you like to have your home, closets, dresser drawers, car(s), garage, computers, tax returns, etc., searched and inspected? Did you ever steal a pencil?

I just read over this and didn't see anywhere that you couldn't have alcohol in your truck while off duty. It just states while on duty you can't. So maybe I missed it and someone can point it out for me.

and they revised the law so you could have the denatured alcohol to use as air line dryer in the winter time, for about a year even that was illegal to have in the truck!

I suppose you could have alcohol on your truck from what I've read as long as your company or carrier didn't prohibit it, as long as you didn't consume it; (cough syrup, mouthwash, or otherwise) as far as the consumption in your truck while off duty or during your 34 hour reset like some of these drivers are stating. It would be in your best interests to just get motel room. I know for a fact that in PA if your over the limit in any vehicle, commercial or otherwise, even if your pulled over and sleeping,:biggrin_25518: if you can in any way operate that vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance your getting a DUI.

If they gave you consent to search, it's their own fault. If you wanted to search without cause, just because you were bored, shame on you for violating their rights.

By the way, I don't drink, never have.
