GPS for local drivers

I use to use the trucker path app before my company put me into my current t8 which has the Kenworth nav plus, cost like 9 bucks a month I think I paid something like 100 bucks a year for it so you may be better off just paying the 3-400 bucks for the device if you're planning on using it long term. I do local runs on Long Island which has a ton of low bridges and parkways so a truck specialized gps is essential, but if you live in an area without all that nonsense you might just be fine with Google.

 

I need some advice on what GPS system to get for my brother (driver). He is currently using his Android google maps and I swear every time I am on the phone with him he is going crazy because the GPS is taking him on side streets and way out of the way. Honestly, I think it is operator error lol but I also don't want him going off a mountain so I would like to give him something reliable and user friendly.

 

I've been driving in my metro area for 45 years.
I'm my own GPS/Google.
I do have an old dezl for ETA on road runs.

 

We are both very new to driving so lets just say I am becoming our own as well. I will have him on the phone, track him, AND find the route he needs to take.... I mean I am learning a lot when I do this but sometimes it stops my work and for some reason he doesn't understand that. lol

Probably more valuable than the gps but used in conjunction he should be ok
