IWX was the best company driving job I ever had. They knew how to maximize a drivers time more efficiently than any other company I've ever driven for. I never had an issue with their mileage quota and one thing I liked about it was that I could go home when I wanted and could stay home however long I wanted. The choice to be full-time or not was mine. I ran team for them and we would run for 3 weeks and then take 9 days off. Never missed the mileage requirements to be full-time.

And people still work there? People go through orientation and GO to work there?

That also have the relay teams that run between Springfield and Kingman.

In my opinion, IWX was mostly a good company to drive for, like some of the commenters are saying. A big reason IWX's draconian miles policy was a stopper for me was because I was doing the Kingman regional during a slow time of the year (February). As a result, the miles didn't look anywhere near as guaranteed as the company managers (and some of the commenters here) are so quick to say.

But in the end it doesn't matter: regardless of how "guaranteed" the miles look, or in fact may actually be, it's an unacceptable policy that every driver should refuse to submit to.

Stoppers vary among drivers. I did an orientation 25 years ago with a crappy car-hauling company called The Waggoners that dictated how long male employees' hair could be. There was somebody in our orientation whose hair was too long. When they told him he'd have to cut it, he politely bid his farewell to everyone and left. I knew that was a bad sign but hung on until the 3-week orientation was over to tell them I wasn't interested in hauling cars and quit.

The other two 18-wheeler jobs I quit after less than a month were a Schneider dedicated run Boston-Baltimore for Sweetheart Cup (three weeks in July 1996) and a Schneider tanker job out of their NJ terminal that same summer (less than a week).

Forgot, there's one more: I did a similar "less than a week" stint with Heartland Express in August 2019.

Thankfully I'm with a good company now: Cheema Freightlines out of Sumner WA.

The trick to running out of Kingman in the winter is to let your dispatcher know your willing to run where ever they need. Worked for me, Ran a lot of apples and tatters in Jan and Feb, miles were good. never had a probelm getting miles, but my slogan was any load any where, at least back then

I'm sure they still do. When I was there they had one of the lowest turnover rates in trucking. But that was in 04 & 05. I ran out of the Texas terminal and my fleet manager was also the director of ops, or whatever they called them, of the Texas terminal.

We did our job and we made good money. Only reason I left was because my wife wanted to get off the road and they wouldn't have been a good fit for me as a solo cause I couldn't get home every weekend with them.

Before CSA, before E-logs, & the first 2 years under 11-14 rule. Hell if you couldn't do 9K miles back in those days you needed to find a different line of work.
I was 12K a month with ease logging the speed limit back then. Now you got that little box taking money out of your pocket & hauling groceries on E-logs? screw that. Thats like trying to run a sprint in quicksand
Bet IWX is a whole different tune these days.

12k a month on ELOGS is easy. I used to run 18k a month by myself back when I was on paper. Not at IWX though.

They could be different now, don't know. They were sure good back then though.

Very few drivers averaged 18K miles per month at Marten through the early-to-mid 2000s but I routinely got 4500+/week there and occasionally 5000. They had the freight and I had the right dispatchers.

    RStewart Thanks this.

That's cool. I was running produce from Cali to Boston, 3 rounds a month.
