It’s not my money but if it were I would go with the w900.
The Star would have to be under $20K to make me change my opinion.
Of course no pics so it is hard to say what type of condition so there are assumptions here that both are about equal with respect to condition6rider Thanks this. -
I'd go with the Star (granted the 2 trucks are in the same condition). Better engine, better built.
6rider and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I would decide which engine I wanted, which Truck I wanted, and look for that. Unless these are the only choices you have. Not knowing exactly what you want, says to me that you need to do some more homework. You should know exactly what you want, then hone in on as many Trucks as possible. Like that special woman, when you find it, there will be no doubts. You’ll know immediately, and be ready to act quickly, or you’ll miss it.
6rider Thanks this. -
The other $5 question is where did the engines come from???
The shop that uses bearings that melt at 200K?6rider Thanks this. -

60 series over the ISX every day all day long.
I own an early ISX. Although it’s a ok motor it’s not nearly as good as a real unmolested 60 series.Dave_in_AZ, 6rider and RubyEagle Thank this. -
These two have the specs I want for heavier work and are within my budget. Need to avoid emissions to start and around here good pieces are hard to come by.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I guess I’d go with the WS and Detroit. Even though I really like the W900, and the power of a Cat, I run a Freightliner with a Detroit. I had a 92 WS, they are great Trucks. Built to stay tight. Parts are still a problem, I hear. Even with Freightliner network, hard to get in stock, and still overpriced. Only complaint I had, bought most non specific parts at other Dealers. Once waited 3 weeks for a coolant tank. Made in Mexico, shipped to Canada, then to Memphis, then to my local Dealer. I should have had a welder make one, for half the price. It was a crude big box, an upgrade for recalled ones that leaked under the straps at the time. They are nice Trucks, resale isn’t very good, despite all claims. W9s as much as I like them, personally don’t like the suspensions, rear is known for problems with bushings, aluminum spring hangers known for cracking. Front springs look to be too small to Me, compared to Freightliner/WS. Best thing about the Star Car is it’s easy to work on. I’ve read a lot of complaints on Windshielsds and windows leaking.
