    Dear All,
Thanks @Chinatown for your help in starting the journey

I am 44 years old and about to make trucking my new career. I start CDL School in a couple of days. Please i need all those who have gone through this journey to give some advise on what to do and not do to make the best of the learning experience and new training. I am having my CDL school in Chicago, but will be relocating to Houston. need advise on great companies for paid orientation training and great offers.

    Get all the endorsements.
Don't get the hazmat until you move to Houston. If you get it in Illinois, it won't transfer to Texas.
What type trucking do you want in Houston?

I'll check back later; have to get up at 0445.

Read your states CDL Handbook and make sure you know it before you go. Use all the study guides and practice test here and anywhere else you find them. Make sure you can pass them before you go. I know you said you leave in a few days, so try your best to get as much reading, study and practice test in as you can, that way you'll know the information before you go, so you're not learning on the spot, instead, you'll be refreshing and polishing up on what you already know. This really helps if you're going to a fast pace program. You don't want to be like others and wait until you get there to learn everything. Position yourself for success.

    Good Luck & Have Fun!

Get the DMV Genie app and buy the $14.99 upgrade. Go through all those questions, and you’ll have no problem getting the permit and all the endorsements.

I didn’t bother getting the permit beforehand. I would have pretty bored for a week listening to the same stuff I just aced. But as theSoz said, start studying as early as you can. Although studying and learning comes easy for me, we had several guys drop out because they couldn’t pass the permit test, much less the endorsement tests. You have to be the judge of that.

When you apply with actual trucking companies, don’t volunteer information they do not require. Only give the minimum required. Make sure what you do give is 100% accurate because they’ll pull background info from a half-dozen agencies.

Thus exhausts the depths of my knowledge.
