What states? Very few vendors will just tell you. PA example.

That Mc # just makes you a atm for state and federal agencies.

I for a change thought it applies to all states. Illinois is one.

But we didn’t have to file specific paperwork. It came with the MC certification. They ask just for the certification in auto shops, auto parts. What I learned is that it does not cover tools and chemicals. All truck/trailer, etc. parts are tax exempt.
Correction: Actually there is a form for the Illinois state. It’s one page only. They have copies in shops, everywhere where parts are sold. They make a copy once of the MC certificate and keep it in their files. On the form they ask for US DOT number, and address information with your name/company.Last edited: Mar 10, 2020

I did not realize all states do not give a tax exemption with MC number.
In Pennsylvania I do not pay tax for anything related to the business, not even title work.
I just have a form from the state with my information that I give to the vendors.Blackhorse77 Thanks this. -
Same with Ohio but you do have to fill out a form saying haul for hire and right down MC or DOT #
