The kid that I am currently with, also 22 years old, is very motivated, he works hard, he's impressionable and seems to be keeping is mind open.
I remember when I first met him in the driver's lounge. He greeted me well with a firm hand shake and he looked right at me. I have still been thinking about that and the impression it left on me.
Of course he does not have any issues waking up and he has done more than pull his weight so far. I have helped with a few things I noticed he needs to work on, but the important thing is he is listening to me and learning.otterinthewater, Vic Firth, misterG and 5 others Thank this. -
What we need is to retread old grump drivers to stride into the drivers room and pick the most panic stricken trainee in the place and drag him or her to the rig to be methodically beaten until in perfect compliance with everything expected (Or not expected) by the company.

Right? One fart cushion in the truck is enough for me. -

If the OP is hardworking and waking up when he should and doing all of his responsibilities during his shift then I would argue that he deserves a driver that can do the same, so they both can get paid what they deserve without one guy getting run straight into the ground.
While he is on the truck with this slack though yes, team trucks should never be late because it can always be moving and if they leave as soon as they get their load and not delay then they have ample hours of free time to work with.Vic Firth and truckdriver31 Thank this. -

In my opinion if the op makes a habit of babysitting the other team driver he will quickly see a 50/50 partnership turn to 60/40 and then 70/30 and finish with a 90/10.
The other driver needs to pull his weight or get off the truck period.Black_Yeshua, Bean Jr., Vic Firth and 3 others Thank this.
