Well for the handful who I've met here who have helped me to navigate my application process and ultimately accept an offer I begin this journal (somewhat ahead of time) as a show of appreciation. For all those I haven't met yet and who may benefit from the inside scoop (all you newbies like me) fasten your seatbelts...
So this week was interesting from a prospects perspective. Drove out past Troy NY from home in Mass (a little under 2hrs drive but mostly scenic Berkshires and small sleepy towns) to meet with a traveling rep from Wadhams in Latham NY. Spoke to him for about 30 minutes and the offer was as follows:
New Driver (0-6mos, out of CDL school)
.43cpm for first 6 months, .485cpm 6mos-1year, .545cpm 1yr+ (all practical miles)
daily pay - pre/post trip at hrly rate of $17.10 (first 6mos), $18.50 (6mos-1yr), $20 (1yr+) xtra $85.50-$100/wk
Sign on bonus (no contract) of $2000 (inexperienced) or $2500 (experienced) paid quarterly first year then $100/mth in second = 1st year $200/qtr bonus.
Fuel cards in trucks (all fuel company paid no reimbursement process)
Breakdowns covered with company phone list for in and out of area services no driver pay/reimburse issue.
$10/load flat bonus for hazmat loads
Pay schedule is bi-weekly (2x/month)
Trainer and trainee both in seats at same time double bunk sleeper for off duty (should be interesting but who doesn't like a little adventure at 55 years of age, right? lol)
6 paid holidays after 90 day period but must work day before and day after to get pay ($120/holiday flat rate)
up to 3 personal days so long as you start no later than March (prorated number the later you start in the year) paid at $100/day. Any unused days cannot be carried over to next year but can be cashed out in Jan of following year.
Company paid Life/ADD at 20k/40k for drivers.
I won't go into the whole health insurance thing unless someone really wants to know.
At this point I have left a message with recruiting that I have decided to accept their offer and am waiting to hear back on the what and wherefore of their orientation held somewhere out between Syracuse and Buffalo every week on Thursday-Fridays if I understood correctly. Aiming to head out next week rather than try for tomorrow so I have time to gather whatever I'll need to bring with me.
Oh and as I understand it they will pay for private room for orientation.
$120/day orientation pay.
Will keep ya posted as things develop. Stay safe out there.

I like that getting paid for pre/post trip inspections.
I've worked for 2 companies that paid that, but when I posted it, most seemed to think I just made that up.dieselsneezle Thanks this. -
Oh and forgot to mention that it's a Monday-Friday position, weekends off. I was told I should average between 2300-2500 miles per week, which isn't out of the park exciting but considering everything else it seems like a great start.
If the numbers work out as advertised I should start at about 1100+change gross/wk and climb to 1400+change gross after 1 year.Buffalonytrucker92, Suspect Zero and Chinatown Thank this. -
I've been curious about this company, I see they are hiring for northeast regional. I'm out of Buffalo NY. And that is really cool being paid for inspection. I'm sorry to be a pain. But how is the insurance. That's usually the deciding factor weather or not I accept a position.
dieselsneezle Thanks this. -
Being from NY I'm following. Was suppose start at Schneider on a dedicated but according to them don't need a driver in that position now because of freight but can go otr. Only other offer is Covenant out of Amsterdam, NY.

I've read bad things about the company that stem from the union policies, so it may not be worth it.
Maybe it's BS, because I only read about it.
