Step back and look at the big picture. If the demand for oil is down, why is that? Don't be daft

 

That’s an impressive discount from a mega carrier. I’ve always known theirs was steep, just wasn’t sure by how much. In contrast to NASTC, Landstar’s discount is 24 cents better for the same Sapp Bros. So I ran some numbers to see how much Landstar could in theory save their owner operators if their fuel discount were to average 24 cents per gallon better than NASTC’s discount.

3,000 (avg wkly miles) X 45 (work wks yrly) = 135,000 miles

135,000 (miles) / 7.0 (avg mpg) = 19,286 gal yearly

19,286 (gal) X $0.24 (avg fuel discount) = $4,629*
*more fuel discount savings in Landstar compared to NASTC, assuming their average discount were 24 cents steeper.

 

Landstar is bad.

 

The demand side didnt change. The supply side went up plus saudi arabia lowered their sale price.

Actually the demand has lowered due to this new virus affecting travel. But that's a separate issue. And will be short lived just like the previous ones. Soon travel will return to normal.

 

Oh it came down a bit I see.

 

I read somewhere online that the drop in diesel fuel prices were because of price wars between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

 

Price war happened because OPEC wanted more production cuts to keep the price of oil up. Russia said no so now they will both flood the market with oil to gain market share over the other.

But then again I only have a minor in economics
