ThatsT a good point. The Freightliner was taken off the road long time ago. Kept engine mounted and covered with hood for storage.

You know Cat still makes parts in China and Australia. My buddy has one of those Australian Cats that is built to pull 5 trailers. He runs Northwest and Alaska, those front wheel drive comes in handy in the winter.
Anyway, Canada is a proxy to get parts. Then find an independent shop around here to get it rebuilt. -
I just put a set of factory injectors in a b block couple months ago and have ordered a full rebuild kit within a year. Factory Cat parts are still very plentiful and shouldn't be an issue.wore out Thanks this. -
Mechincal pump not set right+ heavy foot x running at lower than 1700 rpm / heat > boost= melted #5 everytime.
Brettj3876, x1Heavy, Chubby Fly and 1 other person Thank this. -

Something else just cause they work for CAT doesn't mean they are a guru. Find a good B model man and roll with it -

So, some interesting things have come about since I last posted. Cat got very involved and sent a rep that spent several hours with me. Appears by serial number that my 3406b was built as a 310 horse power. Was sold to me as a 425. When it burnt up the first time the shop rebuilt it to serial number specs. Perhaps a miscommunication between me and the shop. I've decided to pull everything out and rebuild the entire front half of the truck and go back with a new, freshly built 3406B with some upgrades. Also learned that a certain glider kit builder is out of business (not announced yet) because the fed's found a way to beat his system. The plan also is to get all these old trucks off the highways by not allowing the manufacturers to cast any more blocks. Once they're all used up there is no more. This is suppose to take 12 to 15 years. As for me, that's fine. I plan on doing this about another five years or so then someone else can have fun with it. While mine is down I'm driving a friends plastic tonka toy. You youngsters can have that crap. I don't need a computer telling me when to swap gears, or tell me if I'm in the optimum range for fuel mileage. Been doing this long enough to know when I'm making money (lol). So once I get this done I'll upload some pic's and specs and you can see how it survived.
Tall Mike, 650cat425 and Deere hunter Thank this.
