Best I've ever done was 10. That was empty, taking my time with a slight tailwind. Mostly I'm around mid 6 to 7.
Think I've said before, best fuel economy truck I ever saw was a '99 FLD. Ran all over the country it would get 8+ except under really harsh conditions. Buy older for better fuel efficiency, not newer imo.FoolsErrand, Tug Toy, singlescrewshaker and 7 others Thank this. -
True. I think what kills it is the bush more than anything. So many ups and downs, hard pulls etc. Almost seems like its everything or nothing when it comes to putting power to the tires lol.Tug Toy, singlescrewshaker, 1951 ford and 5 others Thank this.

If your section of the industry is performance based, fuel economy isn’t as important as performance. You get these guys that came from the door slammer world who think that they can jump in, put a set of super singles all around on a 13 axle rig and buy a lighter spec’d truck and somehow, they will be able to pull 200k and still get 7 mpg. It doesn’t happen. Their whole concept is to do this in order to haul for cheaper rates.
In fact, I’ve had people argue with me back in my wind blade days, that with their aero trucks, and direct drive transmissions, 450HP, that they should get better fuel economy than me. Did not happen. I did a @Superhauler, took an old hood, built the engine to produce enough torque to change the rotation of earth, matched it with 22918B, and ran it as hard as she could pull. Would you believe that we all averaged between 5.5-5.9mpg all miles? -
Hauling logs we ran T800’s with 18 spd’s and 3.91 rear ends and 2050 torque. You’d be at 1500 RPM’s at 64 mph, but you could climb anything. I’d imagine we were around 5 mpg average. That’s pulling 78-85 k gross on 5 axles.
