@rbrtwbstr I have had this conversation with friends many times. You make some great points. I had a Nurse Practioner tell me once how the Human immune system works. Her reply was somewhat strange. I had no idea she was a Trekkie. She asked me if I watched the show and if I understood who the Borg was? I said yes I did. Then she asked if I remember how they defended themselves. I said yes. When attacked the "collective" would develop immunity from the frequency of the weapon and add it to their shields. The human system works almost exactly the same way. If you are not exposed to threats the immune system has not had time to make antibodies to attack such a threat. It is amazing sometimes how ignorant people can be on this topic. (again ignorant is not a bad word)

Yeah and I'm not advocating people not wash their hands, or not bathe themselves.
For now, that's probably the best a person could do. But I think we as a society need to remove the bubble wrap, put the games away and just go outside more.
Without going political here, there was one thing Obama said that I agreed with 100%.
He said Americans need to put their phones down and talk to each other more. I couldn't agree more. (Kind of ironic that I post this from my phone while the kids are playing games on their phones. It IS raining though )Sirscrapntruckalot and kemosabi49 Thank this. -

I am currently working on the insurance side of the Health care industry. Something that was just literally mentioned to me because of the severity of this strain. They are wondering if the gov is hiding the fact that this might not be an 8th strain of the Corona virus and stronger than the other 7 strains already out...such as SARS...etc.

All I know for sure is I’m 42 and have always chewed on my fingernails. And I rarely get sick. The last time I was sick enough to miss work was Sept 2017 after a trip to Hawaii. So I’m gonna keep working and living my life like normal. This mass hysteria is just stupid and driven by the media. This is nowhere near as bad as H1N1 back in 2010.

I’d start worrying about the economy. Soon the trucking industry will have way too much capacity. For owner ops freight rates will plummet. Add to the possibility of an interstate travel ban if you aren’t under a load? You’re stuck wherever you are. You can’t turn off major industries like airlines, restaurants, tourism, sporting events, etc not to mention ports have nothing coming in from China; and not expect our industry to tank. And you owner ops? Sorry no unemployment for you. You’re a contractor. Assuming you are still alive now fast forward to the foreclosures, commercial real estate defaults, credit card loan defaults, truck and auto loan defaults.
There aren’t enough printers in the country to print that much money.

I don't think a company like Celedon is a good measurement. Even if swift, jb hunt, or schneider went out of business.
They are called bottom feeders for a reason, they take loads dirt cheap and don't provide adequate training. The goal of the companies is to get drivers in trucks as quickly as possible and make money through sheer volume of freight. Get 100 inexperienced drivers to run 100 loads earning the company 1000 each vs taking the time to find 25 good drivers and fight to get 4000 per load for 25 loads, which is hard because the megas are fighting against each other so have pushed themselves into this position. Downside is higher expenses due to driver and truck volume and when something goes wrong, like a major customer leaving, lawsuit, or just too many expenses (ie, maintenance, accidents), the company cannot afford to make up the loss and goes out of business.
What if the tree huggers got the government to charge a 'pollution tax' per company based on the total miles driven with the tax brackets being similar to income tax brackets? More miles per month = higher tax per mile. It might cripple the megas due to their low income per mile whereas the small companies and owner ops taking higher paying loads would come out on top due to having a higher income with less miles.Last edited: Mar 17, 2020
