I am an OTR driver and I'm here in Milford, CT. I was hungry and so I stopped into the ol pilot truck stop cause I like their pepperoni pizza. I proceeded to bs with one of the employees that was working the deli...you know, about current events. She proceeded to tell me that in a week that they were going to be closing the pilots. Whoa, hold the phone...I don't think I heard that right...does she even understand the implications of such a decision?! I was dumbfounded, and most of all, skeptical. I walked calmly back to my truck and proceeded to call Pilots HQ. I spoke with a Spencer who informed that no, they were not shutting down in a week...that he knew of. Of course they aren't, why would they tell me (a trucker) anyways...if they were? He did, however, let me know that they were, "monitoring the situation daily", on social media and the news. Personally, I think it's these outlets that are causing such hysteria in the first place. He also informed me that they would be following federal recommendations and regulations regarding the pandemic. Well, let me tell you guys something. If I'm to take that sentence literally..the CDC has recommended no gatherings of more than 10 people. Guess how many were in the truck stop when I was in there? Probably a good 30-40. The impact of such a decision as closing down a national chain of truck stops..if that's what this employee was implying..will create absolute chaos. Not only in the industry, but specifically every single thing you can think of. Stores aren't getting enough food now, just wait until trucks are backed up for a mile trying to get fuel...delaying deliveries and such. People will start to freak out. I don't know which is worse, the fact that the employee told me this startling (rumour) cause that's what it is...so far....or the fact that the employee specifically said a week. I live in Idaho and my step-father is a nurse anesthitist at one of the major hospitals in Boise. For people that don't know, those are the people that put you to sleep before surgery. Yesterday the hospital laid them ALL off until further notice. To make room for possible cases of severe coronavirus. This is starting to spiral much faster, day by day. Take what you will from this post but I DO wish all the truckers out there the best. I hope you all stay healthy, as well as your families. Me, I'm trying to catch a couple loads to get back to the northwest to be closer to my wife and four children.

    God bless you all,
    C

I can see them closing to 4 wheelers but open to big trucks for fueling and limited services.

Better stock up food supplies in your truck and have necessary items for hygiene also.

I don't believe the poster either. Not because of the poster though. I don't believe simply because I know rumor mills. I'm sure the poster had this conversation. I'm equally sure the pilot employee was talking out his backside.
