Absolutely NOT! Do not take your permit test unless you are in the State of Texas. Number 1, it won't transfer. In fact, the only test you can take at any DPS testing location is the permit. All of the other tests have to be taken at one of two DPS locations that are closest to the terminal. Number 2, I pulled my permit out last night because I hadn't really looked at it, and I noticed that it is only good for 30 days. That's fine for me, but for anyone starting later it could be a problem. If you get your permit to early, your permit could expire before you're done with the class. That would be a bummer because you need it to practice driving. I'd just study until you get to Texas. They give you plenty of time to take the tests you need to take. The first week, they let everyone out on Tuesday to go to the DPS and take exams. You will continue to be excused at 2:30pm each day until all of your tests are passed. You'll have plenty of time. I didn't find any of this out until Friday when I spoke to Bill, who has posted previously on this thread. He called me to give me a heads up. Don't forget to bring the extra money for the tests. I think they are all around $10 each, and there are 5 written exams and the driving test (I think-don't quote me).

Well, I'm off to bed pretty soon, I have to get up early to make it to the terminal by 6:30am for the first day of school. I doubt I'll sleep I'm so excited!!
