Hello all, I hope all of you are surviving the plague and toilet paper hoarding.

I am going to be getting a new (to me) truck in the next few weeks and it has the Peterbilt Evolution driver's seat in it. Similar to this one :
I drove the truck for a day a couple years ago and the one thing that stuck in my head is that the seat drops to the floor of the truck as soon as you get out of it. And then, when you get back in, you have to climb down onto the floor and sit there muttering curses at the designers while it reinflates itself.

Surely, this is a "feature" that can be disabled. Right? Please?

I have done some looking but I can't seem to find an instruction sheet for the seat (Peterbilt's website is useless). The driver manual tells you very little useful. I found an article in Overdrive that states
Yes. Yes, it certainly does. I suppose climbing down onto the floor and getting into your chair would be "easier" for someone. I am not that someone, however.

The driver who has the truck now does not use the seat's air suspension, preferring to sit on the floor and peer across the windowsills and dash like a soldier in his foxhole. (Or, your grandmother going to the shops. You pick the description that amuses you most.) Anyway, he has no idea how the seat works.

Since I can't find tons of information, and complaints, about this, I assume it is a simple matter of knowing what control to lock out so the seat stays in place like any other air seat. I suppose I could just wedge a piece of 4x4 under the seat, but, surely, I cannot be the only person in trucking that wants my seat where I left it when I get back in my cab.

Does anyone know how to control/disable this "feature"? Or, have a link to a manual for the seat?

Any information is greatly appreciated. I just want to be prepared on the morning I get to work and there it sits attached to my trailer.

I had a 579 Pete with the same seat. The large oval button at the front controls that. If the button is in,the seat goes to the floor automatically. When the button is out,the seat operates normally. At least, that is how it worked in the 579.

Thanks for the response. I realize that button does control it manually but I also remember it just falling away when I would get off the seat and then I would have to sit on the floor and wait for it to air up again.

Is there a lockout for that?

Heaven forbid you sorta stand up a bit to lean over dash in a tight backing situation and darn near fall on your butt sitting back down.. or reach up above to grab something from cubby hole lol.. I only drove that truck once and it was enough

My KW T680 has the same seats as Peterbilt. When the large button is out on mine and I get out of the seat, it drops an inch or two but not all the way to the floor. I've never bothered to read the manual on it because it works good for me, but I believe you can lock it in the up position with that button that slides from side to side that has the lock symbol on it.

The only time I dump the air out of the seat is when I drop something on the floor while I'm driving and need to reach it. I feel like an old blue haired lady driving to church looking over the top of the steering wheel.

For anyone stumbling upon this thread looking for an answer: I finally ended up in the truck and got the answer about the seat from my boss.

It is set to drop in an effort to make the seat last longer (reduce the rounding of the outboard seat edge from getting out of the seat that happens over time). I'm dubious about how much the seat drop thing will actually help.

It still annoys me, but I can deal with it knowing that it is purposeful not just the universe (or the gods of Peterbilt, messing with me.
