I too am on a second career and have been researching this for some time .... I've had my own consulting business before and am disciplined with budget, time management, business plans, etc. ..... I've found a good truckers CPA/tax man in Knoxville where I live ..... I am usually successfull at most of my endeavors I am sure if and when I become an o/o, it too will be good ..... I appreciate your advice and please do keep the advice/concerns coming because I'll be the first to admit I may not have thought of everything

I worked there from February 2002 till December 2003 and I think you hit the nail on the head. I made the best of it and really had no complaints specific to Roehl. It sounds like they have cracked down on some things though. They had the idle time back then but I never heard about out of route miles or logging. The last 8 months or so I was there I just drove how I wanted and made it all work on the log. Never heard a word about it. I ran primarily NYC with a flatbed and often times my tolls were not even close to my log but they never said a word. They did not have EZ-Pass back then and this was under the old HOS with 10 hours of drive time, 8 hours off, and no 14 hour clock.

Based off my experience there, it really was a pretty good company. They preached safety and I always thought they lived up to their end of the deal. Always had good tires, safe equipment, and they never pushed me to run illegal. I would be way early at times but that was me and their eta always allowed it to be done legal. I'm sure plenty has changed, for good and bad, but I would recommend them from my time there albeit it was almost 6 years ago now.

My husband only had to do orientation, after he was done with that he was assigned a truck.

You mean there are trucks with working radios in them?? Where? lol
My husband has a Sirius radio he had running through the stereo...until the stereo crapped the bed...now he has external speakers he has plugged into it so he can still listen to his radio. He told them the stereo stopped working, it still continues to not work as I'm guessing they didn't bother with it. He was in Canada this past weekend and a rock kicked up from a truck in front of him and hit his windshield. Safety said they'd try to route him through to a yard to get it fixed. We shall see how long it takes to get that done, his DSR is back today from vacation, the temp. one he had decided to preplan him for the Canada pick up and not clue him in right away until he called in and another DSR told him. Surprise you're preplanned for a Canada pick! What?? Oh and to get definitive and correct information? Forget about it! lol
Roehl is like most other trucking companys though, so these "quirks" are not surprising at all. It's like every day can be a surprise, whether it's pleasant or not, well have to wait until it happens lol.

well it has been an interesting week thus far .... let's see when I last left y'all, my truck was knida/sorta fixed but not really at Ellenwood made delivery Monday in Atlanta then picked up a food stuff load for delivery in Plant City fla .... original assignment said appt 2330 tues nite then while driving down get msg that appt has been changed to 1600 on tues .... so I stop and recalculate my schedule and decide to take 10 hour break ..... get up on tues am start driving and call to verify directions and find out appt has not been changed sooooo after 3 hours have to stop for another 10 hr break so I don't run out of hours while docked ..... get load dispatch for wed am in Tampa bound for Mobile Al ...... can pick up load, move up road and take break and get back on a semi-human schedule ...... wrong ..... called to verify directions and go to pick up only to find it's a blind bill and the actual shipper is accross town sooooo bust arse and still get there on time ..... get loaded and all is good .... start down road and notice load feels heavier than what bol says .... stop to scale and I'm over so now I have to go 30 miles back down the road to have shipper take some off ..... he explains that he knew the bales of scrap paper had got wet but did not realize that it added that much weight ...... so I get load straightened out and hurry up the road ..... have to quit driving at noon because of the 2330 appt the nite before ..... but due to weight problem, I don't get as far up the road as I needed to so it appears as if I will make delivery in Mobile but run out of hrs shortly there after ..... so now I get bright idea to start driving at 10 tonite but only drive for 4 or 5 hrs then take another 10 hr break then drive remaining 2 or 3 hours and make delivery then I have at least 7 or 8 hours available to get next load if available and get the heck out of Mobile ..... oh yea .... I find out during the rain I'm in, that my windshield leaks and my paperwork / directions I had left on the dash while sleeping got soaked and am still waiting to here what is going to be done with this truck because my air tanks leak and when I shut off the engine, within 45 minutes my tanks are empty .... mechanic showed me where someone wrote on the tanks that they are bad and need to be replaced but becasue of the age of the truck (my guess on this) they do not want to replace the tanks..... lol .... ain't life a bowl of cherries .... hope y'all are having as much fun as me ..... lol .... keep me posted as to how you all are doing .... believe it or not, I'm just sttin here laughin at it all .....
