Ahhh Phoenix. I have a house in Mesa I will sell!
Looks like we will all become Werner supertruckers at about the same time.
I believe most of the trainers trucks are equipped with two bunks. Many of the tractors I watched pass through Fontana had APUs. I heard that they concentrate APU installation in CA because of the idle laws. I believe many of the trainers were o/o's. Every one I talked to were but that was not a representative sample. During orientation a truck sales guy talked to us an recommended that anyone who wanted to buy through the company be a team or trainer. I thought th prices they were asking for tractors was kind of high but I am not a source to quote.
Let me say this about Werner orientation... It was honest, factual, no BS and somewhat boring at times. There is a lot of paperwork to complete and some computer training (safety, hazmat, etc) and computer based logging exercises to complete. It was sufficient to introduce an individual to requirements prior to going out with a trainer.
You are given a training package that includes a form that lists all the tasks you are to complete which must be signed by both the trainer and trainee, a form where you list every single time you backup and the situation (the trainee should back the truck up everytime), and a form that the trainee fills out rating the trainer upon completion of training. You actually get mote than one of these just in case you have more than one trainer. Personally, I think the training package was comprehensive enough to achieve the goal.
The only thing that can't be assured ahead of time is that the trainee and the trainer will get along.

Be careful what you order from the jack accross from the hotel in phoenix, the fried stuff !

I asked the recruiter about the trucks and if they had bunks. He asked why and I said I would rather not have to spoon or be spooned by a big hairy guy. LOL!
And if I had a female trainer my wife would not appreciate me spooning there either.
I hope I get one with an APU... Time will tell tomorrow.
Thanks for the info!
Skipdog, yes I know about Jack, lol... There is a Fuddruckers about 5 miles north on 17 that has good food.
Take care, Larz -
I just completed training with Werner and it wasn't bad. They told me that I would be getting paid $325 a week for the 1st 70 hours or whatever it is. I never got paid that $325 a week. I was getting between $415 to $450 a week throughout my training and thats after tax. If you drive a lot you'll get paid that extra pay but if you ######## around stop a lot then you'll make that $325 a week. The only advice I have is when you get done with your training hours do not call your SDM until the end of the pay week. I called as soon as I was finished with my hours and they stopped paying me until I got assigned to a truck. I finished my training on a thursday and on monday i had a truck.
LostSoulCA Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info. I got paid more for orientation than they promised.
I just got cleared by the doc so my training should start soon. -
Thanks for the info tre607. Werner is in my top 3 list right now and I'm not sure what to do. Two things that concern me about Werner is their reputation and they are actually the lowest paying of my top 3. All that aside, one of the other company's may actually eliminate themselves from my list on their own, so really it comes down to Werner and one other company.
Anything else you can tell us about Werner? What was it that made you choose them? -
The only reason why i chose Werner was because the recruiter that they sent to the school I was attending was the only one that seemed to be really honest. You'll hear bad about every company but Werner really isn't that bad. Just remember a recruiter is a recruiter and don't believe anything until you see it for yourself.

werner does have some nice conventional trucks. anybody know the specs though? i think they're all only 9 speeds.
grrrr...... -
You must of lucked out. My hubby only has gotten the 325 and then the 350 before taxes! My husband had his 300 hours last Friday and was told he be off the truck in Calf. Well then they gave them a load for Kansas and then Georgia where he was to get off the truck at the terminal in Atlanta and test out. This morning they decided to send them to TN. so hard telling when they will let him get out and test out. He has a friend that is waiting to team with him and no hometime till they make their first run together. Tomorrow it will be 9 weeks he has been out!!!! -
They're not all straight 9's, though the majority are. They've got Super 10s, 13s and 18s (though they are pretty rare.)
