its a mixed bag. Sometimes i like being able to crack the whip and get away from idiots. sometimes i find running at 63-67 means less stress, i just let everyone go by. then again, if i had a driver in my truck it would probably be limited until i trusted them.

    Why does speed matter?
    Lol....that's hilarious....
A 65 truck does max. mileage of 715 miles in 11 hrs including some good down grades....
A 74 mph truck does 815 miles on one of my better days/shifts...
Maybe an extra 100 miles a shift means nothing to you.
But....if you had dedicated drophook loads and no down time between them meaning all turn and burns then.....
You could get an extra 700 mile a week equaling 7x10 hr=70 which is roughly 4800-4900 legal miles a week vs the 4250 max I have ran in a 65mph truck.
    Numbers are everything!
Who cant use an extra $450.00 a week if they are driving @ $0.65 cpm ?
    $ 2500.00 or $ 3000.00
As a company driver legal maximum....and give it $ to me 1099/EIN/dba/inc. and + $ 68.00 a day standard meal and incidental expenses....while I eat peanut butter and jelly= another....( $476.00 ) instead of 12% perdiem chump change....tax free.
@ 60 yrs old good health and no ins. Or bennies I'll take all I could get of $3K + $476.00 M&IE a week....and if I could get just 1 year of it consistent I would save 2/3 of it and pay cash for a brand new tractor adding some previous saving with it....and get an authority to go with it. I dang sure would !....I can drive 700 or 800 a shift no sweat no whine as long as all the 55-65 mph stay out of the way and commuter jambs.
    You can legally drive 13.5 hrs in 24 hrs....or....run 10 hr shifts....infinitely w/o 34 resets...off recap...I am 60 I don't need 12.5 hrs sleep everyday....I worked 18 hrs a day as a contractor before I started driving!
Trucking is GRAVY in comparison I LOVE GRAVY EVEN IF IT ONLY PAYS A THIRD OF WHAT I MADE...
As a Master Painter/carpentry/drywall finisher remodel/new construction contractor.
Give me 7 × 10 everyday infinitum....that's only half what I worked when younger and I slept on some of those jobs also!
Granny's and children and foreigners that can't write or speak english drive trucks in flipflops!
As long as you get your miles.....sure....how you going to do that working for someone else in a 65 governed Auto SNAIL pulling 45K.....
Yah.....move over Big Dog and let somebody that wants miles and run 75 out west go by.......!

CorsairFanboy, cjbrents and DFritzKY Thank this.

    EVERY TRUCK US DIFFERENT!!!
I drove a 16 cascadia freight shaker with an eaton 10 that was governed at 72 but it had one size over steers on it so it bounced between 74-75 mph on the gps....and it got 6.5 mpg consistent avg. heavy or not. And the only speed I know is shove it through the floor.....and float the gears!!!...but I DONT SLOW DOWN....except for the dot brk.....so if I have 11 hrs of interstate I RUN IT!....815 mile and leak in a jug!
And mega fleets don't pay $3.80 a gallon!!!
    So....100 miles a shift 250 days a year is 25,000 more miles or 25 more loads .
    At $2.00 a mile avg....that's $50,000.00 more $....
So.....smoke them...#'s and see how dizzy you get!
    I don't like TO SIT!

Keep the shiny bits they won't make it go any faster! An animal guard ,cold AC fridge inverter a clutch10 speeds and 75 mph dedicated drophook turn & burns that run out west 700 mile a day 10 hr a day infinite recap no reset.....I would run 11 mo. out of 12! ....
And love every minute of it.

Where'd you learn your trucker math? 70 hours in 8 days, not 7. That's 8.75 hours a day, every day, running recaps.

Why are the threads still here after 2 yrs if they aren't supposed to get bumped or trolled whatever....then they would be closed to further comment.
There are lots of different views....you think you are saving money driving slow.
And that's fine there's a lane for it....as long as you stay over there the faster trucks won't waste fuel slowing down....lol.
You say your truck runs 85 how do you know all that slow fuel you're saving isnt getting wasted every time you have to pass someone sleeping in the slow lane or slowing to let someone on the hwy.. .
When you could just run 72-74 in the left lane consistently.
Trucks use more fuel from to many speed changes not from consistent speed.

Doesn't matter if you have 70 in 7.....even if you stop at 23:59 on the 7th day.... and 10.... till 10 am on the 8th day .... after only 14 hrs more you will get 10 hrs recap....at midnight on the 9th.....THE LORD RESTED ON THE SABBATH/7th day!
    TRUCKERS REST ON 8th
    But....I worship his word everyday!
    But....34's are unnecessary!
As long as you don't drive more than 10 hrs max each day you get 10 hr recap days 9-16 everyday if you drove 10.... except the 8th/17th my point is...you don't have to 34 to get another 70....only 24 to start at midnight day 9&18 and so on...27...36...45...
Indefinite.. .driving 10 gets you 10....if you only drive 8.75....you only get 8.75 so if you want 1.25 hr shorter days instead of 10+14 or 24 together on day 8 go ahead.
    Drive day 8.....
Or start from 0 hrs @ midnight drive 10 every day 7 days....be done with 70 @ 10 am 7th day go to church on the actual sabbath while on a 34 that ends @ 20:00 hrs day 8....
You can work 7 days rest on 8th till 00:00 of 9th and run 10 hr recaps the next 7 or start your 70 at 00:00 hrs and stop by 10 am day 7 and reset 34....till 20:00 day 8.....or run up to....23:59 and recap 10....@ 00:00 day 9....If you had true dedicated turn and burn drophooks you never would have to stop more than 14-24 hrs....as long as dropyards are distanced properly or you drive 10 hrs no matter what.. .I would rather rest longer 1 day ( 8) and have 10 hr to drive than to have short shifts and drive everyday including day 8....but...you could your dropyards/warehouses would have to be closer though....
Either way 34's are unnecessary and or could be completed by 20:00 day 8....even after driving 70 hrs if 0 hr started @ 00:00 hrs. Or take a sleeper + and extra 14 day 8... And recap 10...@ 00:00 hrs day 9
